A man in Queens has been arrested and charged with murder after police said he killed his girlfriend with a sword and then called 911, blaming the robbers for the murder.

Peter Ikonomou, 37, was arrested Tuesday after his girlfriend Mindy Singer, 35, was found dead in the closet of his apartment in the Briarwood section with the sword still out of her back.

The crime came to light when Ikonomou’s mother visited his apartment to check on him, and he slammed the door in her face and called 911, according to NYPD sources quoted by police. New York Daily News.

Police say Ikonomou made up a wild story by telling the 911 emergency center that “fake cops and locksmiths” were trying to break into his apartment.

However, Ikonomou, who appeared to be high on the drugs, was reportedly seen on his balcony screaming that he had killed someone when his mother and her boyfriend tried to enter.

Police responded to the apartment on 85th Road around 1:40 PM, where they found Ikonomou holding a cane at the top of the stairs.

Ikonomou is said to have told police his girlfriend was “in the closet,” and a search revealed Singer’s body in a closet with multiple stab wounds and a 46-inch sword protruding from her back.

It’s unclear how long the couple had been together, but police said they had no previous reports of domestic disturbances involving the couple.
