The 29-year-old man who ‘attempted to stab a woman to death’ outside the leisure center is arrested again for terrorism offenses

A 29-year-old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of terrorism offenses after a woman was stabbed to death outside a leisure center in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire police said.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the incident at around 9:15pm Thursday night on Tommy Taylors Lane in Cheltenham.
She remains at the hospital for treatment where she remains in a “serious but stable condition,” police said.
Police said the man in custody was re-arrested last night under the Terrorism Act after previously being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder immediately after the incident.
Police today obtained an additional detainer, allowing officers to question him until Thursday, March 16.
Gloucestershire Police said in a statement: “The man has been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism in contravention of Section 41 of the Terrorism Act (2000) as well as on suspicion of preparation of acts of terrorism. under Section 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (2006).’
The investigation is being led by the South East Counter Terrorism Police due to the specific details of the incident. They will work alongside South West Counter Terrorism Police and Gloucestershire Police officers.
The force’s deputy police chief said he believed this was an “isolated incident” and that they are “not aware of any broader threats to members of the public.”
He encouraged people with information about the incident to contact police on 101.
ACC Richard Ocone of Gloucestershire Police said: “I would like to reassure those living locally or visiting the county that we believe this was an isolated incident and we are not aware of any broader threat to members of the public.”
