Makeup really makes you look more attractive.

Scientists discovered that applying lipstick and eye shadow really makes women look more beautiful.

It was also shown that cosmetics make older women appear younger than their real age, while eye shadow had more impact on attractiveness than lipstick.

According to the latest findings, makeup makes people more attractive by amplifying three characteristics related to youth: the uniformity of the skin, the facial contrast and the size of the facial function.

Richard Russell, from the Department of Psychology at Gettysburg College, conducted the research and observed 32 women from four age groups: approximately 20, 30, 40 and 50 years old.

Richard Russell said: "In many contexts, there are rules that regulate when a girl can start using makeup.

"To the extent that women are more likely than girls to wear makeup, people can learn to implicitly associate makeup with adulthood.

"Because age discrimination is widespread in employment contexts, especially for women, the ability to manipulate age perceived through makeup can provide critical professional benefits."

The research and observed 32 women in four age bands: approximately 20, 30, 40 and 50 years. Participants were asked to estimate the age of each face, with an interactive scale from 10 to 70 and also based on attractiveness

Each face was photographed for the first time without makeup before a professional make-up artist gave each participant a makeover.

The women were photographed in identical conditions and with lighting.

The participants were then asked to estimate the age of each face, with an interactive scale of 10 to 70.

In addition to guessing the age, each person classified the images according to attractiveness.

The findings, published in the British Journal of Psychology, showed that make-up made middle-aged faces look younger.

However, the same products make the faces of younger adults look older.

The study found that makeup applied only to the skin and eye region had a significant effect on perceived age, compared to makeup applied only to the skin and lips.
