A professional makeup artist has revealed which Mecca beauty products she thinks are “overhyped” — and what she recommends shoppers buy instead.
Hailing from the central coast of New South Wales, Bec has been working and doing makeup at the beauty shop for four and a half years and went viral with her expert shots in a TikTok clamp.
She said cult favorites like Charlotte Tilbury’s sold-out Airbrush Flawless Foundation weren’t worth the hype, called out MAC’s setting spray for a little detail, and revealed which products are the “best” she’s “ever tried.”

Aussie makeup artist, Bec (pictured) of the Central Coast, NSW, has revealed which Mecca beauty products she thinks are over the top and what to buy instead

Controversially, Bec doesn’t rate the ultra-popular Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation, saying to opt for the Too Faced Born This Way Matte foundation instead
“I’m going to show you something of the same product that I think is worth checking out,” Bec said in the clip.
“I’m going to offend some people, there are some favorites here – it’s just my opinion of what hasn’t worked for me.”
Bec starts with the Stila felt-tip eyeliner that she said isn’t ideal for those who wear a liner like her every day.
“If you make a mistake and you get over it, it comes off. I used to be a big fan, I’ve found better stuff now,” she added.

She said she should opt for Clinique’s liquid liner (right) which is “blacker” and “tighter” than Stila’s felt-tip pen (left)

The beauty aficionado thought the Mecca Max blush sticks were over the top but said he should get the Stila Convertible Blush Cream instead which is ‘dewier’
Instead, Bec said to opt for Clinique’s “amazing” liquid liner, which she thinks is the best Mecca sells, adding: “It has a brush tip, so you have so much more control, it’s blacker, it is slimmer, she’s just that one.’
Controversially, Bec doesn’t rate the ultra-popular Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation.
“I’m really sorry, I don’t like her. She’s nice, she’s fine, but the color range is really yellow,” Bec said.
“It’s quite thick in consistency, it’s still fine, I’m very picky here. It’s just not my favorite.’
The makeup pro instead recommended the Too Faced Born This Way Matte foundation, which she says is “flawless.”

The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (left) is just “OK” according to Bec, but she doesn’t think it’s worth the $90 price, preferring Bobbi Brown’s Face Base (right), which is only $31
“I can wear it to work, I can go out afterwards and don’t have to touch my face at all. Just great, bulletproof. Just make your skin look silky smooth,” she said.
Bec again apologized to beauty lovers for saying that Mecca Max blush sticks are over the top because they are too “powdery” and feel more like a mousse, while she prefers something “creamier.”
She said she should buy the Stila Convertible Blush Cream which is ‘dewier’, not much more expensive, and comes in a ‘really great’ range of shades and colors.

For fixing sprays, Bec said MAC’s popular Fix Plus (left) spray is a “great product,” but her problem is with the sprayer. She said Charlotte Tilbury’s spray (right) is the best she’s ever tried
The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream moisturizer is just “OK,” according to Bec, but she doesn’t think it’s worth the $90 price and prefers Bobbi Brown’s Face Base, which is only $31.
For fixing sprays, Bec said MAC’s popular Fix Plus spray is a “great product,” but her problem is with the sprayer.
“Come on, MAC, it’s been years, we all hate the sprayer, give us something smoother,” she said.
“It leaves little spots on your face and when you’re done with your make-up you don’t really want drops of water all over your face.”
Bec’s favorite setting spray is from Charlotte Tilbury, which she said is the best she’s ever used.

Bec, who has been working in Mecca for four and a half years, did a follow-up video with even more overhyped and alternative Mecca beauty purchases worthy of their popularity
‘This is incredible. It has a great spray and it’s long lasting and it keeps you glowing, probably the best fixing spray I’ve ever tried,” she said.
In a ‘part-two’ video, Bec gave fans more overhyped and alternative Mecca beauty buys worthy of their popularity and price, after the first clip went wild with nearly 400,000 views.
Instead of the Two Faced Better Than Sex mascara that “clumps” long lashes, she said go for MAC’s MACStack mascara, which is “beautiful.”
Bec said Stila Stay All Day liquid lipsticks can be dry unless users have the time to properly prep their lips, but they prefer NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment.
“They’re a little watery, so they feel a little odd when you put them on, but once they dry, they’re a real stain,” she said, adding that they’re perfect for brides who want a “glamorous look.” but don’t want to update all night.

“I’ve worked nine hours, ate burritos and talked all day and these don’t come off or feel dry,” she said.
Bec thought the Hourglass Vanish concealer was “nice around the face,” but for most people, “thick and dry under the eyes.”
Alternatively, Bec uses the Too Faced Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer because it uses ‘hydrating’ coconut water and lasts a long time.
About Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Palette, Bec said, “At $80 for four shades, they should be great and they’re beautiful, but they’re not great in my opinion.”
“While the hourglass scattered the light, you know I love these, they’re just so beautiful they last forever, they make your eyes look so pretty and sparkly.” I just think they’re worth it,” she said.
While Bec “don’t mind” the Too Faced Hangover Primer, she said she “couldn’t love a product more” than MAC’s studio radiance primer.
Finally, she said the Mecca Brow Gel is nice for a “light groom” but won’t hold, while MAC’s Brow Set lasts “for days.”
