The remains of Adrian Romeo, 43, were discovered in Melbourne's north during widespread searches over several months.

The remains of a man missing for almost a year have been found on the outskirts of Melbourne, months after a trio were charged in connection with his murder.

Adrian Romeo, 43, disappeared on February 10, 2024 after telling his parents that he was going to visit partners in Greenvale, in the north of the city.

His phone and bank cards have not been used since and police have yet to find the gold 2004 Toyota Camry he was driving.

Romeo’s remains were discovered at a property in Wildwood, north of Melbourne, during widespread searches over several months.

Robert Mantini was arrested in July and accused of killing Romeo in Greenvale, according to court documents.

Two others, a 60-year-old Greenvale man and a 29-year-old Wallan man, were arrested and charged with assisting offender (murder) in December.

Detectives previously carried out a series of searches at the Wildwood property between July and December in a bid to locate any trace of Mr Romeo.

During searches conducted on November 27 and December 10, several items were located and sent for forensic analysis.

Romeo was reported missing to the police four days after he disappeared.

Police had spoken to a large number of Adrian’s friends and associates, with no further progress regarding his whereabouts.

A major CCTV probe was also carried out and police worked through hours of footage to try to trace his last known steps.

Romeo left his home in a distinctive gold 2004 Toyota Camry sedan, which has not yet been located but could help with the police investigation.

Monte Romeo left his house in his gold Camry, which is also missing. Police have released images in hopes that the 2004 Toyota Camry can be found and offer clues.

Detectives previously released a photo of the car as part of their public appeal in the hope someone might recognize it.

“There is a possibility it may have been dumped somewhere, stolen or sold and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the gold Toyota Camry,” Inspector Thomas said.

“He may be somewhere on the street, so I urge people to be on the lookout.”

It has been confirmed that the remains found this week are those of Mr. Romeo and his family has been notified.

The investigation continues.
