A man has been charged with murder over a horror double murder on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Jackson Gilmour, 29, was sleeping inside the house on Parson Street in Rye when a woman and a man allegedly broke into the house shortly after 4am on December 2.

Gilmour, 29, and Charlyze Hayter, 19, were treated by paramedics for gunshot wounds, but both died at the scene in Melbourne’s south.

Mrs Hayter and a 24-year-old man are believed to have broken into the property.

A guest staying at Gilmour’s home ran to the bathroom and called police while he confronted the couple.

Ms Hayter then allegedly hit Mr Gilmour with a baton and demanded he hand over his wallet and other personal belongings while she rummaged through his drawers.

Gilmour shot and killed Hayter before he was allegedly shot by the intruder who fled the scene in a vehicle.

On Friday, police arrested two Narre Warren men, aged 25 and 24, as well as a 24-year-old Narre Warren South man and a 28-year-old Narre Warren North man.
