Meanwhile, after four days of efforts, firefighters have the 1,000-acre blaze under control tore through a town north of Melbournedestroying cars, farm sheds and livestock.
Authorities confirmed that the grass fire, which ignited in Flowerdale on Tuesday, was successfully contained by 7pm Friday and warnings for local communities were reversed.
One hundred firefighters will remain on site Saturday morning to patrol the blaze and ensure it stays within containment lines.
Those containment lines were completed Thursday night through bulldozing and burnback, conducted primarily on wooded areas of private property.
Although the fire is under control, it is expected to continue burning for weeks, or until significant rainfall occurs in the area. During this time, the fire brigade will supervise.
