Australia Post has announced it will reintroduce weekend deliveries ahead of the festive season.

The temporary service, which was announced on Thursday, will be available in all metropolitan capitals and select regional cities and towns.

Gary Starr, executive general manager of parcel, postal and e-commerce services at Australia Post, emphasized the importance of weekend deliveries to ensure customers receive their parcels before Christmas Day.

“With the holiday season right around the corner, we know how important it is for our customers to receive their packages on time,” Starr said.

‘We’ve been preparing all year for another busy season, recruiting thousands of new team members to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible.

‘Last year we delivered almost 100 million packages. With the cost of living crisis, customers are expected to make the most of major shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday, so we anticipate early holiday shopping will drive another record year.”

Deliveries over the weekend will continue until Christmas, depending on volume.

Australia Post has also continued to expand the locations of its popular 24/7 parcel lockers, providing even more convenient delivery options.
