Loyal 7-Eleven customers are threatening to boycott the chain over a change to the Fuel Lock app feature.
Budget lovers have long been fans of 7-Eleven’s Fuel Lock feature, which allows users to “lock in” the best fuel price at their five closest stores for up to a week.
However, 7-Eleven introduced a savings limit starting February 6 that prevents users from saving more than 25 cents per liter.
The reaction was swift, with many customers criticizing the multimillion-dollar company’s decision.
“Well, there go some easy savings,” said one.
‘I’m going to boycott 7-Eleven because of this. Costco only from now on,” wrote another.

Other customers asked how often people saved more than 25 cents per litre.
«I normally charge between 15 and 20 cents per liter. 25 cents per liter is still a pretty good saving. “$10 for a 40 liter fill,” one wrote.
However, commenters explained that they could easily save more by monitoring the fuel cost cycle.
“There may be some massive spikes,” one customer wrote.
‘I’ve saved up to 40 cents a liter semi-regularly when I timed things correctly and didn’t care which 7-Eleven I went to.
“If I continue using Fuel Lock, I’ll be more selective about which one I choose, now that they’re going to consume anything over that 25-cent savings.”
Others who live in border towns said gas can often be much cheaper a few towns over.
“You can regularly save 40-50 cents by staying in WA,” one wrote.
Another said: ‘Our gas prices have been between $2.10 and $2.20 for months, yet in my five closest stores on the 7-Eleven app, one of these stores is over the border on the other state and has been costing between $1.60 and $1.85 in this same time period.
“The discount restrictions will definitely be painful for me.”
One customer said she was caught short at the register after missing 7-Eleven’s announcement about the change.

“I left my gas at $1.81 and then filled up somewhere that was $2.30,” they said.
‘When I went to pay, I received only a discount of $8 instead of the expected $16.50.
“The guy said that 7-Eleven limits the discount to 25 cents per liter, which seems extremely unfair to me.”
A 7-Eleven spokesperson said the chain is “always looking for ways to offer our customers convenience, choice and value.”
“When it comes to savings, of course, savings vary and are not guaranteed,” they said.
‘Some customers could save a few cents per liter by using fixed fuel pricing.
“Others could save more over the course of a year by pricing at the lowest points in the fuel cycle.”
