Major breakthrough in search for Samantha Murphy's body as police invade new area

A new search is underway for mother-of-three Samantha Murphy, seven months after she vanished without a trace.

The 51-year-old woman was last seen leaving her home on Eureka Street in Ballarat, to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest on the morning of February 4.

Victoria Police launched a targeted bush search in a new area near Grenville on Tuesday.

The search has ended for today, but will resume on Wednesday.

Missing Persons Squad detectives and officers from the AFP and New South Wales have been deployed in the search.

‘Since February, police have regularly carried out a series of small-scale investigations and searches as part of the ongoing investigation.

‘Samantha’s family has also been informed of the search.’

The public has been urged to stay away from the new search area.

More to come.
