The ex-partner of Queensland woman Meaghan Louise Rose has been arrested in connection with her alleged murder almost 30 years later.
Keith Lees, 72, was arrested at a house on Kenthurst Road, in Dural, in Sydney’s northwest, at 8am on Thursday.
He was arrested on a warrant for an alleged murder in Queensland in 1997, New South Wales police said.
Police took him to the Hornsby police station, where he was charged with the outstanding warrant.
New South Wales Police also laid new charges against him, alleging he attempted to bite an officer while in custody.
He was charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty without aggravated bodily harm, dealing with identity information to commit, etc., an indictable offence, and possessing identity information to commit, etc., an indictable offence. .
He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
Lees cannot be charged with Ms Rose’s murder in New South Wales. Queensland Police are expected to request his extradition to lay charges against him there.
The arrest comes 27 years after the body of Meaghan Louise Rose, 25, was found at the foot of a PointCartwright cliff in Mooloolaba, southern Queensland, in July 1997.
