It was a momentous night for Mail Sport at the Sports Journalists’ Association Awards (the Oscars of the industry) on Monday night as we took the top award for Sports Newspaper of the Year and were recognized in several other categories.
Mail Sport fought off fierce competition to claim the biggest gong of the night. Rugby writer Nik Simon received the Rugby Journalist of the Year award and Charlotte Daly triumphed in the Social Media Journalist of the Year category.
Simon was praised for his “game-changing” articles that exposed racism in sport. The awards also honored Mail Sport’s outstanding and much-loved tennis writer Mike Dickson, who sadly passed away in January, by naming the specialist correspondent award in his memory.
Mail Sport columnist Nasser Hussain won Commentator of the Year for his work on Sky Sports, while fellow columnist Simon Jordan, one half of talkSPORT’s White & Jordan, claimed gold for Audio Program of the Year.
