Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard’s musical Best Summer Ever open the ReelAbilities Film Festival

Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard, executive director, produced the high school musical Best Summer Ever, which will be shown at Queens Drive-In in New York on April 29.

Director duo Michael Parks Randa and Lauren Smitelli’s critically acclaimed film opens the 13th annual ReelAbilities Film Festival which runs virtually until May 5th – according to THR

The 43-year-old Oscar nominee and the 50-year-old Golden Globe nominee portray a TV reporter and her cameraman in Best Summer Ever.

“Tonight marks the night of a new season,” Maggie’s unnamed character announced in the newly fallen trailer

Benjamin Bratt and his 18-year-old daughter Sophia, who has physical disabilities as a result of a brain injury at birth, appear together in the film.

It’s about the teenage couple Sage (Shannon DeVido) and Anthony (Rickey Wilson Jr.), who reunite at school after falling in love with a dance camp in Vermont.

Best Summer Ever – with a cast and crew of people with and without disabilities – was also produced by Jamie Lee Curtis, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen and Amy Brenneman.

Those not in New York for the festival honoring the creative expression of people with disabilities can stream Best Summer Ever on VOD starting April 27.

The ReelAbilities line-up also includes Nicholas Bruckman’s documentary Not Going Quietly, Chandler Evans & Sachi Cunningham’s movie Crutch, Sergio Morkin’s movie Maricarmen and Ignacio Márquez’s movie The Special.
