MAFS star Timothy bravely opens up about his traumatic family past during emotional chat with fellow groom Tristan: ‘All the scars on my heart are from people that I loved’

Married At First Sight star Timothy Smith bravely opened up about his traumatic family past with fellow boyfriend Tristan Black on Wednesday night’s episode.

The business owner, 51, struggled to become vulnerable with his wife Lucinda Light during the experiment, but gradually opened up as the days went by.

He has described himself as a “slow” person and has been open about how he finds it difficult to talk about his emotions due to the loss of loved ones in the past.

But on Wednesday, Tim bravely spoke to Tristan, 30, about his traumatic family past and admitted he has an “open wound” because of it in a very honest conversation.

During the final dinner, the couple had a one-on-one chat in which Tristan sweetly described Tim as his “father” while gushing about their close bond.

Tristan, who is married to Cassandra Allen, then asked Tim how he and Lucinda were doing, prompting his friend to bravely open up about some of his struggles.

Tim said: “I have nothing to fuck with, the problem is that she can bring things out of me that make me question myself.”

When Tristan asked if that was a good or bad thing, Tim responded that it was “bad” because “I have emotions that I put in a box and hide.”

He continued: ‘This all calls into question who you are. Lucinda says I’m not open because I don’t trust anyone. All the scars on my heart are from people I loved.’

Tim then opened up about his devastating family losses and his “difficult” final moments with his father, which came just months before filming the reality show.

Tristan, who is married to Cassandra Allen, asked Tim how he and Lucinda were doing, prompting his friend to bravely open up about some of his struggles.

He told Tristan: ‘Mom died, brother. [took his own life] That year, dad died three months ago. But he left me as a parting gift… a message: “I don’t like you.”

‘No matter how many times you think you’re fine, you’re not. It’s hard. “It’s not easy for me to be an open person,” Tim added on camera.

“Unfortunately I have a bit of an open wound, so being vulnerable is difficult, but I’m trying.”

Tristan, supporting Tim, kindly told him: ‘I’m so sorry. “I’m proud of you, I’ve seen how far you’ve come and it’s incredible.”

‘I wouldn’t invest so much time in you, dad, if I didn’t give a damn about you. “I’m proud of you and Lucinda is proud of you,” he added in a touching moment.

Speaking to the camera, an emotional Tristan said: “It broke my heart a bit, he had to learn to stand on his two feet for most of his life.

“But anyone who’s been dealt that hand and can still put a beautiful smile on their face like him, that guy’s carrying baggage but he’s climbing that mountain and he’s climbing it more than most people.”

“I can see why Lucinda is so patient… I think Lucinda has done wonders with Timothy,” she added.
