EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight star Steve Burley reveals his highly unlikely new career path after quitting his job as a hairdresser

He is the Melbourne hairdresser who rose to fame after failing to make love to Mishel Karen in last year’s season of Married At First Sight.

And on Tuesday, Steve Burley revealed that after nearly four years as a hairdresser, he has decided to put his clippers down and head in a new direction.

“I left the barbershop after wanting a new direction and went to work for a property company in Brighton, Victoria,” he told the Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday.

“It’s still early days, but I’m looking forward to the challenge I’m about to take on.”

Steve, 53, explained that after years of running his own hairdressing salon in Melbourne’s CBD as he went in and out of lockdown, he felt it was the right time to see what else was out there.

“I wish them the best of luck, but for me it’s about sinking my teeth into something new and exciting,” he said.

The outspoken reality star will now put his trust to good use by selling prime real estate for James Paynter.

Earlier this year, Steve made headlines after insisting his friends Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Rawson were madly in love as their relationship played out for viewers of the Channel Nine reality show.

Speaking on the Dangerous Ideas with Deano podcast, hosted by another former MAFS star, Dean Wells, 43, Steve said the couple are “connected” and happy.

“I went to Melissa’s family’s house to watch the screening of the wedding. I was with Melissa, Bryce and Melissa’s family. I’ve never seen anyone, or as a collective, as a family, as closely connected as Bryce and Melissa.

“They were super emotional with the things they were watching because I think they are so in love with each other.

“I can tell you I’ve been out with Bryce and Melissa several times since the show aired, and terrified, they’re 100 percent tied up, trust me.”
