1990s: the beginning of some subtle changes
Fans began to suspect that Madonna was starting to experiment with subtle enhancements as she hit her 30s, and eagle-eyed celebrity watchers began to notice some minor changes.
Although unconfirmed, rumours at the time suggested the star was experimenting with Botox, as well as undergoing a nose job.
Another rumor arose around the time of her 1990 Justify My Love video, when it was claimed that Madonna had injected collagen to give her lips a fuller appearance, as if they had been stung by a bee.

2000s: Rumors about surgeries abound
There was further speculation about the possibility of surgery in 2008, when Madonna appeared to show bruising on her face, leading some to believe she had undergone lower eyelid surgery.
There were also claims that her wrinkle-free skin was the result of a “tape lift,” which involves inserting a bioabsorbable tape into the neck to hold the muscle back and tighten sagging skin.
While she didn’t address the rumours, Madonna admitted she barely recognised the face she sees in old photos, saying: “I don’t regret anything, but sometimes I think, ‘Oh God, what was I thinking…?'”

2020s: A drastic change
In recent years, Madonna fans have noticed that the pop star has adopted a radically different appearance.
Notably, following an appearance at the Grammys in 2023, some noted that her face appeared to have a more swollen and tight appearance.
At the time, Dr Michael Horn, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Chicago, Illinois, gave DailyMail.com his expert opinion on the procedures she may have undergone.
Dr Horn believes Madonna not only had a “face lift” – which he says was “obvious because her skin” looked “tight and tight, with no wrinkles” – but also had a nose job.

In the image, her face looked much more stylized and similar to her usual appearance.
Along with the photo, she shared a text that read: “Look how pretty I am now that the swelling from the surgery has gone down. Hahaha.”
