Madonna began her message by talking about her iconic SEX photo book, which was released in 1992. The explicit book sparked outrage and was also praised for its avant-garde nature.

“30 years ago I published a book called SEX, in addition to photos of me naked, there were photos of men kissing men, women kissing women and me kissing everyone,” she wrote.

Madonna continued, “I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view on sexuality in a tongue-in-cheek way.”

The Borderline singer went on to express that she came under fire from less open-minded people.

Provocateur: In the statement, the 64-year-old hitmaker spoke about how she previously opened up to the public about her private life in a way that greatly outraged much of the public.

“I spent the new years being interviewed by narrow-minded people who tried to shame me for empowering me as a woman,” she recalled.

Madonna later commented that she “was called a w****, a witch, a heretic, and a devil” during the time period.

The hitmaker went on to express that modern artists have been allowed to be much more open about their sexuality.
