Madonna, who postponed the start of her Celebration Tour in July because she was recovering from a bacterial infection, has announced new scheduled dates for her live shows.
The icon’s tour was originally supposed to start in North America and then visit Europe; now the North American dates will take place after she performs in Europe. The tour officially kicks off in London on October 14 and will visit the US for the first time on December 13 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Tickets for the previously scheduled shows will be honored on the new dates, though five shows — in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Phoenix and Nashville — have been canceled. Refunds will be made to the original point of purchase. “Madonna deeply regrets any inconvenience to fans and hopes to make amends in those markets in the future,” Live Nation said in a statement.
Madonna was previously scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden on August 27. Instead, ticket holders for that show will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to her December 26 show at the Barclays Center. In Los Angeles, those who had tickets to Madonna’s previously scheduled shows at Crypto.com Arena and Kia Forum will have the chance to purchase tickets to her five new shows, in March 2024, at Kia Forum open to the public.
Two weeks before her Celebration Tour was due to begin, Madonna’s manager said the singer was expected to recover from a bacterial infection that resulted in a multi-day hospital stay. Guy Oseary confirmed she had been admitted to an intensive care unit on June 24 for treatment of the infection.
Since then, Madonna has shared multiple social media posts, thanking her family and friends for supporting her during her recovery.
“Love from family and friends is the best medicine,” she wrote on Instagram. “A month out of the hospital and I can think. As a mom you can really get caught up in your kids needs and give it seemingly endless……….. But when the chips ran out, my kids really showed up for me. I saw a side of them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.”
She ended her message by “thanking all my angels who protected me and let me stay to finish my work!”
