Madeleine McCann suspects that Christian Brueckner will probably be released from prison as “there is no prospect of an indictment in the Maddie case”, a German prosecutor has revealed.
Brueckner, 47, a convicted pedophile and rapist, is expected to be freed from an unrelated jail sentence as police in three countries seek more concrete evidence against him in the McCann case.
But their efforts may not bear fruit, prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told Sky News.
He said: ‘There is currently no prospect of a charge being brought in the Maddie case.
“As things stand, defendant Christian B’s incarceration will end in early September.”
Madeleine was just three years old when she disappeared from the Portuguese villa where she and her family were staying in May 2007.
Brueckner was identified as the main suspect in the ‘kidnapping and murder’ of Madeleine McCann in June 2020.
Brueckner has denied any involvement in her disappearance, but German officials insist that “he is the man,” although charges were never filed.

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters (pictured) said: “There is currently no prospect of prosecution in the Maddie case.”
Philipp Marquort, one of Brueckner’s defense lawyers, welcomed the prosecutor’s statement.
He told the broadcaster: ‘This confirms the suspicions we have repeatedly expressed, namely that there is no reliable evidence against our client.
‘We regret that we have not yet been granted access to the investigation files. We have not yet been able to effectively counter the public prejudices arising from the prosecution’s statements.’
The convicted rapist is currently nearing the end of his prison sentence for raping an elderly American woman in Praia da Luz, the Portuguese resort where Madeleine disappeared.
In October, he was acquitted of three rapes and two cases of child sexual abuse after a bench trial in Germany.
In his final speech at the Braunschweig court, Brueckner’s lead lawyer, Friedrich Fuelscher, suggested that convicted rapist and pedophile Brueckner was only being tried for his link to the internationally recognized Madeleine case.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Engemann made a lengthy statement explaining why Brueckner was acquitted and harshly criticized German prosecutors for naming him in connection with the Madeline McCann saga.

Madeleine McCann’s main suspect, Christian Brueckner, arrives at the court in Braunschweig, Germany, on October 8, 2024.

Madeleine McCann (pictured) disappeared on May 3, 2007, when she was just three years old. She has never been found. The German prosecutor’s office has named German criminal Christian Brueckner as the main suspect in her disappearance.
‘We, as judges, have taken an oath and it is to serve only the truth. We take it very seriously, but we can’t wrap people in cotton wool.
“This oath means that we do not have to listen to the opinions of the media, the defense and prosecution, or the table of regular customers in a pub.”
And he continued: ‘Everyone had heard about (Brueckner) in the Maddie McCann case and everyone knew that Brueckner since 2020 was always named by the prosecution.
“When a person is described in the media as a sexual monster and a pervert, it influences the witness. When massive third-party suggestions are made in this way, the testimonies in court are almost useless for the legal room. ‘
