M2 Mac laptops face each other

Our first batch of hottakes is about a Twitter poll we posted. We asked, “If you had $1,500 to spend on a Mac laptop, which one would you buy, the 13-inch MacBook Pro or the new MacBook Air?” A vast majority of you — about 72 percent — voted for the MacBook Air.

I definitely see the benefits of the new MacBook Air, but I’d rather have a computer run actively cooled. I don’t really care about the touch bar, but at least I don’t hate it.

MacBook Air M2 (2022)

Lightning strike

It looks like USB-C is going to replace Lightning on the iPhone and iPads. The European Union has passed legislation standardizing USB-C, and the US is working on similar laws. So Apple has to join the program and switch. Macworld readers have some interesting thoughts on this.

My principle is that I will only upgrade to a newer iPhone if Apple switches to USB-C.

So why isn’t there a push to standardize electrical plugs and sockets everywhere? And which side of the road should we drive on? Or what language do we all speak? One size fits all may work for some things, but not others.
