Lyon hopes for a dream reunification with former striker Karim Benzema, sports director Juninho said.
The Real Madrid star started his career with the French team but left for Bernabeu in 2009 and has since played over 500 games for Los Blancos in a scintillating career with nine major trophies.
But his youth club has now begged the 32-year-old to end his playing days at the Stade de Gerland as they brace themselves for interest in their Barcelona talisman Memphis Depay.

Lyon faces the possibility of losing club captain Memphis Depay to Barcelona this summer
Juninho, a club legend at Lyon, said their ‘dream’ was for Benzema to become ‘our leader and scorer’ and said his experience would be vital.
“Our dream is that Karim end up with us,” he said, as reported by the sun.
“It is everyone’s dream at Lyon to give him two seasons to play the Champions League and be our leader and goalscorer.
Benzema started his career with Lyon, helping the club win the Ligue 1 title four times
“We need your experience and it would help us win competitions.”
Their current captain Depay is strongly associated with a switch to the Catalan outfit, where he would join his Holland boss Ronald Koeman.
The Dutch star played an important role for Lyon during his 137 appearances for the club. He has scored 57 goals and has become one of their main attack threats.
Even at the age of 32, he continues to show his quality at the highest level, as he scored 27 goals this season
When he eventually gets to Barcelona, they’ll need a replacement – and Benzema remains one of the most reliable goal scorers in the game.
Despite entering his thirties, the Frenchman has still proven to be a reliable top-level striker, scoring 27 goals in 48 games for Zinedine’s Zidane men last season and helping them win the LaLiga title.
When he was last in Lyon, he was used to winning trophies. He has won four Ligue 1 titles and the French Cup during his time with the club and his continued experience in silverware would be a huge advantage.
