“I started by looking at the key looks in the series and narrowed them down to the 10 most iconic designs that I think would resonate the most with our client,” explains Robert.

Bringing out his own talent and sensibility, the designer paid tribute to the American glamor with which Roy Halston Frowick became synonymous.

“Halston loved color, so I definitely wanted to emphasize that, and I focused on shiny jersey fabrics and batik prints, which he was known for.”

Notable styles in the capsule collection include the 'Elsa', a caftan of sapphire blue, batik-printed silk chiffon, a key look in the miniseries.

'I like the 'Liza'. It is a shimmering silver sheer pleated kaftan with a bodysuit. “I love that the silhouette is very reminiscent of Halston, but the bodysuit modernizes it. It also has great movement when on the body.”

Each of the ten pieces, named after the Halstonettes (Halston's entourage of models, a term coined by fashion editor André Leon Talley), embodies the luxurious, sexy glamor of the 70s and 80s, an era defined by Halston.

While many of the iconic Halston archival dresses appear in the Netflix series, a notable style in the capsule collection is the “Elsa,” a sapphire blue batik printed silk chiffon kaftan, a key look in the miniseries.

Also the ‘Beverly’, a red and fuchsia printed silk chiffon cascade, and the ‘Anjelica’, a one-shoulder dress in viscose jersey with ruffles.

The “Liza” is admittedly Robert’s favourite.

“Fluidity and femininity have always been part of my DNA and there is a certain sexiness that we both love,” said Robert

“Roy Halston Frowick single-handedly created luxury American fashion,” says Robert.

“Halston has always been a huge influence on my career, in an industry where his mark is still there decades later.”

Robert was appointed CCO in January 2020, after graduating Marie Mazelis, who just as quietly left the company after seven years.

“Somehow Halston and I are very similar. We are both minimalists when it comes to designing collections.

“I try to stay true to the core aesthetic that Halston was synonymous with by keeping the designs minimal and streamlined, but modernizing and reinterpreting it for today’s woman.”

While Halston turned to Liza Minelli and Elsa Peretti for inspiration, Robert says he doesn’t have one particular muse.

“I believe that all women today are inspiring.

“I think Halston was very progressive, he wanted to dress the world and when I design for Halston today I keep that in mind and try to involve women of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.”

“I’m excited to now continue his legacy through this Netflix capsule collection in collaboration with Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.”

The collection costs between $995 and $1595.
