  • The teenager indulged in social media conspiracy theories with his own cryptic response.

Luke Littler has joked with fans on social media about why he pulled out of the Hungarian Darts Trophy just 24 hours before it was due to start.

Responding to an Instagram post by SportsBible, which speculated that the darts tournament coincided with the early access launch of EA FC 25, Little wrote: “what a coincidence,” alongside a smiley face emoji.

Littler is a well-known fan of the game, including its Ultimate Team mode, which he has shared clips of him opening player packs during tournament outings for the night.

Fans have cheekily suggested that the teenager was setting aside some quality time to play the game over the weekend.

The 17-year-old was due to play in the tournament in Bucharest but withdrew for unspecified reasons.

He already won Euro Tour tournaments in Belgium and Austria earlier this year and has a busy winter schedule ahead of him.

Littler has already declined to compete in the tournaments in Rosmalen (Netherlands) and Leverkusen (Germany).

The teenager recently saw his 15-match unbeaten streak ended by world number 70 Maik Kuivenhoven.

Earlier this week, Littler celebrated his second title in the space of 48 hours by claiming the Players Championship 20 crown in Wigan.

The 17-year-old, who won his first World Series of Darts title in Amsterdam on Sunday, defied a brilliant fightback from Stephen Bunting to triumph 8-7 in Tuesday’s final after a thrilling late decider.

Glory for Littler secured his ninth PDC title of 2024, including three Players Championship successes.
