Following the shocking development that the 33-year-old Barca skipper wants, club legend Puyol and strike partner Suarez Messi have given their full support on social media.
This comes after ex-Liverpool forward Suarez discovered on Monday that he was not in new manager Ronald Koeman’s plans next season amid a downright remarkable day or so in Catalonia.

Puyol, who was captain at the club when Messi first progressed into the first team, tweeted: ‘Respect and admiration Leo. All my support, amigo. ‘
Puyol’s tweet was then cheered on in a response from Suarez, who appears to be on his way after a tumultuous 24 hours in the Catalan club.
Messi, 33, has only played for Barcelona and his shocking decision to leave has put top European clubs on the red, not least Manchester City amid rumors of a possible reunion with manager Pep Guardiola.
Manchester United, PSG, Inter Milan and Juventus are also showing interest.
In addition, Messi believes a clause in his contract that allows him to run for nothing is still valid because the season ended in August and not May because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Barcelona says the deadline for Messi to leave for free passed in June and will dispute the player’s argument that the deadline changed when the season was rescheduled after it closed.
Messi would report for the new season on Sunday, but does not plan to meet new coach Ronald Koeman or attend Monday’s next first practice.
Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta accused current executive Josep Maria Bartomeu of trying to sell Messi in a tweet published Tuesday.
“I suspect they want to sell Messi,” he said. “Poor Barça in the hands of these incompetents.”
Messi earns 50 million (£ 44 million) net per season and that costs the club nearly Є 100 million (£ 88 million) gross per year in tax payments. Due to the pandemic, the club feared a Є300 (3265m) gap in revenue for next season.
The 33-year-old has reportedly decided to leave Barcelona this summer
A reunion between Messi and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City is now certainly a possibility
Messi’s future is in the air after Barcelona’s humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that Suarez’s contract with Barcelona, which has a year to go, is being terminated, meaning the 33-year-old can leave on a free transfer.
According to the Barcelona news broadcast SPORTSuarez has been left furious after Koeman flatly informed the striker of his wish to sell him in a 60-second conversation.
The report also says Suarez is angry with Barça president Bartomeu, who hasn’t even spoken to him about his role at the Catalan club.
PSG, Inter, Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City are linked with star player Messi
Suarez is furious with Josep Maria Bartomeu who has not spoken to the striker at all
The striker said last week El Pais: “It talks about names the president gave, about changes that can be made, but nobody told me they wanted to do it without me.
‘If this is the club’s wish, it would be good if the person in charge who chooses speaks directly to me. Better than filtering if I’m one of those who want them to leave. We will see that later.
“I also want the best for the club and my idea today is to continue, but if the club decides that I am expendable, I have no problem talking to those who decide.”
