Mary C. Mangione, a philanthropist and grandmother of alleged gunman Luigi Mangione, left behind an estate worth at least $30 million when she died in 2023

The grandmother of the suspect accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson left tens of millions of dollars to her family.

Mary C. Mangione, a philanthropist and grandmother of alleged gunman Luigi Mangione, left behind an estate worth at least $30 million when she died in 2023.

Documents seen by TMZ say the amount could be higher than $30 million and as high as $100 million.

The money was put into a trust where the trustees, including Luigi’s father, have the power to make distributions.

Conditions have been put in place that mean anyone accused of a crime can avoid seeing any money, meaning Luigi may never see his share.

According to the newspaper, the document allows trustees to withhold money if the person has been “charged, charged, convicted or pled guilty to a crime.”

His grandmother had also determined that she wanted to cut off any heirs who had been accused of “heinous” or “violent” crimes.

Earlier this week, the 26-year-old was charged with multiple crimes, including the murder of 50-year-old Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel last week.

He appeared at a Pennsylvania courthouse on Tuesday charged with Thompson’s murder and shouted at reporters as he was led inside.

He managed to evade capture for days until he was captured Monday at a McDonald’s in the Keystone State.

Mangione had withdrawn from his family and friends sometime last year, when severe back pain seemed to send him into an isolated mental health spiral.

His mother Kathleen reported him missing in San Francisco last month and said she had not heard from him since July 1.

At his court hearings, no members of his family appeared beside him, choosing instead to make a statement.

Their statement, issued after his arrest, read: “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest.

“We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and ask people to pray for everyone involved.”

His grandfather Nicholas Mangione Sr had lived a rags-to-riches story and was known in Baltimore as a formidable businessman.

In 1978, he purchased Turf Valley Country Club in Howard County, just outside of Baltimore.

NYPD officials announced Wednesday that fingerprints were found on a Kind bar and water bottle at the scene, and fingerprints were found on Mangione’s.

It was here that over the years the Mangiones expanded the 1,000-acre estate into a comprehensive full-service resort with conference centers.

As his family grew, so did his empire, which extended to the purchase of another country club, a conservative radio station and a nursing home chain.

On Wednesday, New York police officers laid out all the evidence they had against the former valedictorian.

Fingerprints found on a Kind bar and water bottle at the scene, and fingerprints found on Mangione’s.

Police also reportedly found a bottle of water that the suspect had purchased at Starbucks shortly before the murder.

“First, we got the weapon in question back from Pennsylvania. It is now in the NYPD crime lab,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

“We were able to match that weapon to the three shell casings we found at the murder scene in Midtown.”

The NYPD’s top cop, Joseph Kenny, told CBS that no bullet prints were found at the scene, but one print was on a phone recovered at the scene.

He said the evidence was pending but did not say whether it matched Mangione.
