Lucy Mecklenburgh has shared her surprise at being recently diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis after suffering from “common symptoms”.

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Meanwhile, adenomyosis is a gynecological condition that causes endometrial tissue from the lining of the uterus to grow into the muscular wall of the uterus.

The former TOWIE star, 32, opened up about having the “serious” condition this week and told her followers it has “really affected her” since having Lilah, 21 months.

The mother of two said the diagnosis surprised her because her symptoms did not include period pain or fertility problems, which are typically associated with endometriosis.

Sharing a picture of This Morning doing a segment on the condition, Lucy praised them for raising awareness of the issue.

She wrote: ‘Well done this morning. For something so common in women, there really isn’t much information available and as I’m now realizing, there is a huge lack of research!

‘It’s surprising to see so much conversation about endometriosis. After over a year of testing, I recently got the answer: pretty serious endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Revealing that she is still recovering since the diagnosis, she said: “I’m not completely ready to talk about it yet, I’m just understanding it and processing it myself for now…

“But I didn’t have the symptoms that I associated with root canals, which were period pain and fertility problems, so it was a big shock to me, but it’s really affected me in other ways since having Lilah.”

A few days later, Lucy shared a photo of her stomach and revealed that she has been battling bloating as one of the symptoms of the condition.

She said: ‘The joys of endometriosis and adenomyosis. In fact, I’m tired of trying to hide the bloating I have 80 percent of the time.

‘This is actually mild swelling for me. I’ve tried all the spanx, all the supplements (even though I knew they probably wouldn’t work), eating right and exercising helps a lot. But the anxiety of spring/summer approaching and wearing swimsuits and summer clothes in general is really getting to me.

‘I know there are many worse things, but it sucks not having control of symptoms like bloating, even with a healthy lifestyle. Advice very welcome.’

Lucy’s husband Ryan is currently competing on ITV’s Dancing On Ice with his professional skating partner Amani Fancy.

This week she opened up about falling twice during her performance on Sunday night’s episode of Dancing On Ice.

The actor, 39, took to the ice to skate to the song Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat from the show Guys & Dolls during Musicals Week.

Ryan has since admitted that the falls were a “tough pill to swallow” but vowed to “reset and start over” before his next skate.

But Ryan was left red-faced as he fell face-first onto the ice before getting back up only to land back on the tarmac moments later on his butt.

“I don’t want to shy away from my mistakes,” Ryan wrote. ‘I have to own it, learn from it, move on, restart it and start again!

‘After the second fall I wanted the earth to swallow me, but hearing all their cheers gave me the courage to finish it!’

And he added: ‘And to everyone at home who voted from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

“I honestly didn’t expect it, it really meant a lot ❤️ I can’t believe I have to do it all again on Sunday.”

Despite his falls, former Coronation Street star Ryan received a score of 5.5 from guest judge Johnny Weir, and scores of 6.5 from Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill and Oti Mabuse, giving him a total of 25.
