Some bonds are beautiful: One premium bond saver made a fortune on a £100 bond bought in August 2005 when James Blunt dominated the charts

Each month, Premium Bond holders eagerly await to find out if they have won a big prize in the NS&I draw.

With more than 22 million customers, Premium Bonds are the country’s favorite savings product.

And while they don’t offer a guaranteed return, many savers enjoy the thrill of seeing if they’ve won a large sum each month, all without losing their original stake – even those with smaller holdings.

And in the August draw, a lucky winner The Premium Bond saver scooped a £100,000 prize with a holding of just £100.

The Kent-based winner bought his winning bond in August 2005, when James Blunt’s hit “You’re Beautiful” was dominating the charts.

Another Devon-based holder scooped a £100,000 prize with a £500 stake. This winner purchased his winning bond in February 2009.

For another award winner, today’s news is an example that good things come to those who wait.

This winner, from Nottingham, bought his winning bond in November 1995.

Today they won a prize of £100,000 out of a total of £5,000.

The three biggest prizes up for grabs in the Premium Bond draw are the legendary £1 million jackpots, of which there are only two: the £100,000 prizes and the £50,000 prizes.

This month there were 87 six-figure prizes and 176 prizes worth £50,000.

The winners of the two £1m jackpots came from outside London and Devon.

The Outer London winner has a holding of £24,155 in Premium Bonds and purchased his winning bond less than two years ago, in October 2022.

They are the 12th winner of the £1 million jackpot from outside London.

The Devon winner has £30,275 in Premium Bonds and purchased the winning bond in May 2015, becoming the 18th jackpot winner from the county.

A total of 5.9 million prizes worth £457 million will be paid out in the latest draw.

Currently, the underlying prize rate for Premium Bonds is 4.4 percent and each £1 has a 21,000 to 1 chance of winning each month.

The prizes are tax-free and up to £50,000 can be deposited into them. Earlier this week, NS&I revealed details of an exclusive rate for 220,000 savers who opened a 6.2 per cent rate last year.
