Pub-goers managed to save a hamster from the clutches of a cat by scooping it up in a glass of beer.
Adorable photos show the one-year-old Syrian hamster curled up inside the empty plastic cup after being rescued by drinkers at The Shakers pub in Essex.
The group had seen the angry guy being chased by a cat down a busy street outside the Essex pub on West Street in Harwich.
They grabbed the only thing they had on hand, an empty pint glass, and saved the lucky hamster moments before he could become the cat’s dinner.
A Blue Cross member in Suffolk discovered an appeal on social media and took her to the pet charity’s rehoming center in Wherstead, near Ipswich.

Veterinary checks showed that the hamster, whom the center’s team named Sunflower, was very underweight but was otherwise in good health.
When the owner could not be located, and after spending time in one of the charity’s foster homes, she was soon ready for a new home.
Tara Schafer, breeding co-ordinator for Blue Cross in Suffolk, said: “We’re amazed he managed to survive both the cat and the busy road.”
‘Thank God it was discovered, collected and taken to a safe place.
‘They named him Sunflower because he happily ate them on the way to our center.
“We are pleased to report that after time and care in one of our foster homes, we found a loving and safe new home in Girasol.”
The Syrian hamster was being chased by a cat on West Street in Harwich, Essex, when the revelers sprung into action.
Sunflower has now been rehomed and lives with a new owner in Thetford, Norfolk
His new owner, who lives in Thetford, Norfolk, said: “I chose Sunflower because I loved his rescue story and thought his name was cute.
Although now we sometimes call her Pumpkin.
‘They pamper her daily with various foods and a lot of love.
‘She is well settled and is always happy to come to your hand squeaking when you approach the cage. That’s probably all the food.
