LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey has threatened to sue the Washington Post.

On Friday, it was rumored that the newspaper was planning to publish a story about the championship-winning coach, which she said was “false.”

The 61-year-old addressed the rumors during her press conference on Saturday, criticizing the media’s “sordid tactics.”

“I’m fed up and I’m not going to let the Washington Post attack this university, this incredible team of young women that I have, or me without a fight,” Mulkey said.

“I have hired the best defamation law firm in the country and I will sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about me.”

Pat Forde from Sports Illustrated was the first to report that a story about Mulkey was about to be published.

“I’ve heard some rumors about a big Washington Post story being prepared about LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, potentially next week,” Forde wrote in X on Friday night. ‘Cars in circles, etc.’

However, he did not specify details and it is currently unclear what the story is about, who is writing it and when it might be published.

Mulkey, who led the Tigers to the national title last year, claimed a reporter had been working on a story for two years to “put together a hit piece.”

He said they had contacted the school Tuesday as LSU prepared for its March Madness first-round game against Rice with a “dozen questions” and “demanded an answer” by Thursday “before kickoff.”

‘Are you kidding me? It was a ridiculous deadline that LSU and I couldn’t meet and the journalist knew it,” Mulkey said in his speech.

“It was just an attempt to stop me from commenting and an attempt to distract us from this tournament. It’s not going to work, man.

She further alleged that The Post had contacted “disgruntled” former coaches and players to obtain “negative quotes” about her.

Mulkey claimed that the journalist had told her former coaches that she was working with them on the story and that they were “distraught” when they discovered this was reportedly not true.

‘Journalists who give a megaphone to a one-sided and embellished version of things are not trying to tell the truth. They are trying to sell newspapers and feed the clicking machine.

‘This is exactly why people no longer trust journalists and the media. It’s these kinds of sleazy tactics and hatchet jobs that people are just tired of. I’m fed up! And I’m not going to let the Washington Post attack this university, this incredible team of young women that I have, or me without a fight.’

LSU will face Middle Tennessee on Sunday with a spot in the Sweet Sixteen on the line.
