Love Island’s Luca Bish reveals he’s moving house to be near Gemma Owen

Love Island’s Luca Bish has revealed he’s planning on moving house to Chester to be near his girlfriend Gemma Owen after they found love on the ITV dating show.

The fishmonger, 23, who hails from Brighton, has told how he is looking for somewhere to rent in the celebrity hot spot but won’t be moving in to her family’s £4m mansion and estate.

Gemma lives in the grade-II-listed manor in the Welsh countryside with her famous footballer dad Michael, mum Louise Bonsall, and three siblings Emily May, 14, Jessica, 12, and James Michael, 16.

Speaking after leaving the villa in second place with the dressage rider, 19, he said: ‘There is no middle ground – it’s Chester or nothing!’

‘I’m happy to go wherever she wants me to go. I haven’t got too many commitments back home so it’s easier for me to move. Whatever makes us happy and whatever is right we’ll do. Hopefully if I move near her, in time we’ll get a place together.’

He added: ‘Just to be near her family I’ll love. Hearing stories about her barbecues and stuff like that, I’m quite excited and I feel like I’ll fit right in.’

Gemma’s family mansion boasts a swimming pool, gym, hot tub and horse stables for her 12 horses.

It comes after on Tuesday Luca revealed he has finally spoken to Gemma’s family after the Love Island final – and her mother Louise likes him.

The couple finished as runners up on Monday night’s episode where they lost out to winners Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti.

Speaking in a post-finale interview, Luca told how he had a quick phone call with Gemma’s family – which also includes her father Michael  – and he’s looking forward to meeting them in person.

Asked what his family will think of Gemma, Luca said: ‘My family will love her! They’ve already said they love you. My sister, mum and nan, that’s the one I look for as my dad is easy-going.

‘They’ve all given their approval. We got a call last night after the final and speaking to your [Gemma’s] family, I got a few moments with them and I am buzzing to meet them in person.’

Gemma was asked about her mother’s opinion of Luca and said: ‘If my mum was like ‘absolutely not’ then yeah I think that would be the end of it.

‘I haven’t had a chance to speak to her properly but from the small bits I’ve heard, she’s really happy and likes him.’

Luca admitted: ‘I was nervous. I’ve been anxious about meeting your mum and hearing what she’s got to say.’

Of meeting Luca’s family, Gemma added: ‘I’m not really nervous to meet Luca’s family.

‘I think they all seem absolutely lovely and I’m not nervous for Luca to meet mine because I think they’ll get on and he’ll fit straight in. His personality, his banter and what he loves, I think he’ll get on with everyone. ‘

The pair were also asked how they felt about Gemma’s mum Louise saying Luca looks like her father Michael when he was younger.

Luca said: ‘I think when he was playing football, I was really young so I don’t think I’ve ever seen your dad. I’ve seen him now presenting and stuff but I don’t think I look anything like him there but maybe when he was younger.

Gemma said: ‘You need to see a picture of him when he was younger, side by side.’

Luca replied: ‘I’ve had nothing to go off. I’ve had people tell me about the goals he scored and all that.’

Asked how it felt to finish as runners up, Gemma said: ‘It feels absolutely amazing. I don’t think any of us expected it. I feel like it could have been anyone out of the four couples.

‘Really strong connections – I love all of them! Whatever the situation was last night, I think we all just would have been happy for each other – a really good group of people.’

Luca also said he plans to make his relationship with Gemma ‘official’ in the next month or so and the moment will involve ‘a swimming pool’.

Following Gemma and Luca’s second-place finish, the fishmonger’s family were quick to congratulate the couple, posting a snap of them together with a gushing caption.

It read: ‘Thank you SO much from the bottom of our hearts for all of the support you’ve shown this gorgeous couple. So excited to continue watching your journey from the outside. You really did win by finding each other.’

This was in stark contrast to Gemma’s Instagram, which noticeably only posted solo snaps of the brunette beauty in the lead-up and following the final, with beau Luca noticeably absent.

Sharing a solo snap of Gemma clad in a nude ruched gown, her loved ones penned the caption: ‘Words can’t describe how proud we all are of Gemma.

‘She has shown the nation how mature, honest and classy she truly is. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for all the love and support…Gemma is going to be SO overwhelmed.

‘We are passing this back to Gemma now… We have loved running her account and being part of her @loveisland journey. We can’t wait for what the future holds.’

Eagle-eyed fans at home were quick to notice this, and took to Twitter to suggest that Gemma’s family were not overly fond of Luca and that they were doing ‘damage control’ to protect Gemma’s brand.

One said: ‘I love that Gemma’s family doesn’t even try to hide the fact that they don’t like Luca’.

Another pointed out: ‘Anyone else think Gemma’s said something off camera about Luca to her family because why is theres 0 pics of him since the meet the parents. No mention of him on her caption – no stories nothing Team Gemma instead of Lemma’.

'Did he actually think he would win?' It came after Luca was mocked by viewers who clocked his puzzled reaction after realising he hadn't won during Monday's final

While a third echoed: ‘Gemma’s family/account handlers already doing damage control and distancing Gemma from Luca as quick as possible I am in TEARS!!’

And a fourth agreed, writing: ‘Gemma’s family only posted her and how proud they are of her. no mention of luca. She’s done with him’.

Meanwhile, viewers poked fun at Luca over his puzzled reaction after realising he hadn’t won Love Island during Monday’s final.

Sharing the screengrab to Twitter, fans of the show joked Luca, who has sparked a viewer backlash of late, would soon be asking for a recount, while questioning whether he ‘actually thought he would win’.

They wrote: ‘WHY THE F**K HE PULLING THAT FACE DID HE ACC THINK HE WOULD WIN,’ and, ‘Luca asking to talk to a manager about a recount.’

Others added: ‘Luca got humbled by Ekin-Su and Davide’s win. The satisfaction is real,’ and, Luca is going to sit us down and ask us why we didn’t vote them.’

‘Here we go again, are you serious why can’t Luca just be happy for Ekin and Davide for the rest of the show at least.’

More chimed in with: ‘IM FRAMING THIS AND HANGING IT IN THE LOUVRE,’ and, ‘Luca thinking he had the win in the pocket lmao.’

The awkward moment comes after Luca’s family once again defended him after viewers slammed him for his ‘overreaction’ towards discovering his fellow Islanders had voted for him to go in the public vote.

The Brighton native’s family said he had stayed ‘true to himself’ and that he had simply been ‘honest with his emotions’.

Luca had been criticised by a number of viewers for becoming enraged after learning that he and Gemma had been voted for as least compatible couple.

After being saved, he sat down at the firepit and muttered to Gemma: ‘Ooh I’m gonna have some fun tonight,’ suggesting he was about to kick off.

Later, Luca said: ‘The people I voted for I don’t give a f**k’, adding that he sounded ‘angry’ because: ‘F**king all I know is how good me and Gemma are, but then three of you voted for me.’

Viewers at home blasted Luca for his reaction, saying it was both over-the-top and hypocritical, after he had called out Tasha for being upset over being in the bottom and also voted for his fellow Islanders.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, his family took his side and screenshot a comment from a fan supporting Luca.

The comment said: ‘Can’t believe how many people lack basic skills. Luca was not upset about the votes, he was upset that no one had voiced any concerns about him and Gemma’s relationship before.’

The Love Island 2022 series has been a ratings hit, with 5 million viewers tuning in to the saucy show’s opening episode, but the show has been marred by controversy.

With thousands of Ofcom complaints registered about ‘bullying and misogyny’ from the male Islanders towards the female cast, ITV boss Kevin Lygo has been forced to confirm the broadcaster will ‘sit down and review’ the show when the series ends.
