Her appearance on the show in 2022 was not without controversy, with fans calling for a higher minimum age to be enforced after expressing surprise that Gemma was only 19.

During the opening episode, the contestants took part in a “challenge” challenge in which a teenage girl was asked to kiss her “boy she liked the most” in the Majorcan villa.

She was paired with Liam Llewellyn, 22, but leaned in to give Italian hottie Davide Sanclimenti, then 27, a kiss.

But the moment left fans divided, as many took to X to call for a higher minimum age to be imposed on the show, as it is currently 18 years old.

Viewers offered their opinions on what they thought the show’s minimum age should be, as they claimed Gemma was “too young” to appear on the dating show.

One person wrote: ‘She’s too young for Love Island. The age limit should be 21 years. A teenager trying to get a 27 year old man to show interest in him doesn’t sit well with me!’

Another wrote: “Sorry the age limit for Love Island should be 21.”

A third tweeted: “There should be an age limit to enter #LoveIsland 21+.”

And a fourth commented: ‘We raised the age limit on this programme. For people who have really had love but it didn’t work out and for people who are really looking for it.

25 is an age when most people are starting to get into serious relationships. These people are too young and only want the plt agreements.
