Amber Davies has hit out at trolls who criticized her for her work schedule.

The beauty, 28, who won Love Island in 2017, took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of herself returning to work at the Universal Music Group studios, where she is believed to be recording her Call to Stage podcast.

In the caption of her mirror selfie, Amber wrote: “First working day of 2025,” before adding: “Time to buckle up.”

And while the West End star seemed in good spirits about getting back into the routine, she found herself facing backlash for returning to work just 20 days into the new year.

A second image in Amber’s stories showed the response she received to her last post, with one person replying: ‘Imagine spending more than half the month not working’ alongside eye-rolling emojis.

Clearly unimpressed by the criticism, Amber then wrote about the screenshot, attacking the person while commenting that she “needed the break” before urging her to “not judge.”

She wrote: ‘Erm, I need a break. I lived out of a suitcase on tour for a whole year with no free day in sight, while doing 8 shows a week and then working until the week before Christmas, so… Don’t judge my unemployed free time.’

The hard work Amber referred to was her year-long role as Vivian Ward in the touring production of the musical Pretty Woman.

The star then continued to address the criticism in a video shared to her Stories in which she discussed the difficulties of self-employment and noted that she would have worked “if there were jobs.”

Speaking to the camera, Amber said: ‘I literally love the internet. Everyone says “you don’t need to justify yourself.” And I say “justify myself for being self-employed?”

She continued: ‘Yes, I’ve had half the month off, most of the month off, because 1) I’m self-employed and 2) I needed a break, but if the job was there, I would have worked.’

Captioning his clip, he added: “Freelance love xxx.”

It comes after Amber shared a video of her boyfriend Ben Joyce nailing the high note of the song Defying Gravity on her TikTok last year.

Amber, who recently interviewed Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for her Call To Stage podcast and whose sister Jade performs the cover of Elphaba on the Wicked tour, told fans that their comments were “killing” her.

After Ben hit the high note, fans posted below the video some using the “popular” phrase that came out of the Wicked press tour and has since gone viral.

‘No, that’s OUR boyfriend now’; ‘HOLY FLIP MOLEY HOYCE.’

Amber has been dating her West End co-star Ben for two years and the pair often post sweet photos and videos of each other.
