The Guinness Book of Records declared that a woman from Oregon has the largest female tongue in the world.

Jenny DuVander’s tongue is 5.21 inches in circumference, thicker than a soda can.

DuVander was inspired to apply for the record when she was reading the Guinness World Records 2023 book with her son before bed and saw a photo of the record holder for the largest male tongue.

DuVander, who previously did not know that tongue circumference was a record, immediately measured hers at home and found that it was at least 12 cm.

Later, her dentist officially measured her tongue with a piece of dental floss.

To make her tongue bigger, DuVander must flex it, which is a good thing because, as she told GWR, “If my tongue was always that big, I don’t think I’d be able to talk.”

DuVander first discovered her unique talent as a teenager and says her strong tongue has helped her play the flute.

“When you articulate a note on a flute, they actually call it tongue,” he said.

Not to pigeonhole herself into linguistic talents, Jenny is also able to turn her tongue upside down and bring it to her nose.

For DuVander, the thrill of holding the Guinness World Records title has been the most rewarding part of her experience.

She credits her son, Evan, who loves Guinness World Records and reads the books every year, for her decision to apply.

For others who want to compare their tongue size to that of the reigning champion, DuVander offered some advice.

“Start by spreading your teeth apart and try to get your tongue to reach your upper and lower teeth at the same time,” he said.

“Then gradually increase the distance between the teeth.”
