Louise Thompson had a sporting day to remember on Saturday, winning the mothers’ race at her son Leo’s nursery.

The former Made In Chelsea star was cheered on by little Leo, two, her partner Ryan Libbey, her brother Sam Thompson and mum Karen as she raced towards the finish line, leaving other parents in the dust.

Sharing a video filmed by a proud Ryan on her Instagram page, Louise admitted she had almost forgotten about her recent stoma surgery during the race as she reflected on how far she had come in both her physical and mental health.

“My stoma surgery seemed like a distant memory as I lined up to run in the ‘Mothers’ Race’ on Sports Day this year… it was only when someone asked me ‘how I was feeling’ just after Usain Bolt crossed the finish line that I remembered it hadn’t been THAT LONG since I had my colon removed,” she told her followers.

“Maybe this was all a surprise. I guess they were in shock. To be honest, I was in shock too. I didn’t know I had that gift either.”

“I’m sitting here laughing a little too hard at the stills Ryan took from that video. My posture is incredibly serious. And I also have an embarrassingly serious racer’s face.”

“I’ve always been characterised by my cheekbones, which tend to flatten out in the wind. I imagined myself imitating Princess Diana on sports day in 1991, a total icon, but instead this is what happened to me.”

Louise explained how much the day meant to her, as just a year ago she was almost unable to attend Leo’s sports day because she struggled with anxiety.

The former Made In Chelsea star nearly died during the birth of her son in 2021 and suffered from PTSD.

Louise explained that “my friend Sophie reminded me that I almost didn’t make it to sports day last year.”

‘I had messaged him ahead of time a year ago telling him how anxious I was and that I wasn’t sure if I could handle being around all those people and all that noise, as well as the unpredictability that comes with any ‘first time.’

“Today he told me to take a step back and look at how far I’d come.”

Louise enjoyed the important day with her family, including her fiancé Ryan and her brother Sam.

The proud mum explained that she now uses the milestones in Leo’s life to fuel her positive thinking: “I was talking to a journalist on Thursday about the important moments in Leo’s life, and things like sports day or his carol concert or birthdays seem to really highlight the passing of time (sometimes this is sad, but in my case, it’s largely very positive).”

She now realises that a year ago she was suffering from generalised anxiety disorder. “In fact, I remember writing a caption after last year’s sports day and a fellow author wrote to me saying that she thought it sounded like I was suffering from generalised anxiety disorder,” Louise wrote.

“It was really hard. It affected me a lot. Now, a year later, it all makes a lot more sense. I definitely had GAD. I think I was still suffering from very severe dissociation.”

“This year has been much better. Hopefully the improvements will continue as the years go by. What they said is true. As cliché as it sounds, our dirty wounds really do heal with time.”

To end her post, Louise noted that little Leo isn’t much like her when it comes to competitiveness in sport, joking: “Ps. Leo didn’t leave the start line in two of his races, something I finally accepted.”

“And on the one occasion he decided to race, he literally stopped an inch short of the red line at the finish. The tension was sick!”

Louise recently published her book Lucky, which details her health struggles over the past three years.

She shared the news that she had been fitted with an ostomy bag with her Instagram followers in early April, bravely admitting that it’s “not something I wanted to hide forever.”

The television personality has previously spoken about her ongoing struggles with ulcerative colitis, a bowel disease, as well as the autoimmune disease lupus.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic bowel disease in which the colon and rectum become inflamed and small ulcers form on the lining of the colon that may bleed. The disease has no cure, but can be effectively managed over time.

Earlier this year she spent two weeks in hospital after suffering a flare-up of ulcerative colitis while on holiday with Ryan and Leo.
