Dobbs was named in a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Fox by Smartmatic, an election technology company. He was named alongside fellow Fox hosts Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro.
Smartmatic claimed Fox “decimated” its business by deliberately making “more than 100 false statements and insinuations,” according to a 300-page complaint filed in New York.
Dobbs was fired 24 hours after being named in the lawsuit, according to CNN.
“Nobody loves America more than Lou,” Trump said after Dobbs was fired from the network. “He had a huge, loyal following who will be watching him closely to see his next move, and I include myself among those followers.”
Dobbs spent most of his career at CNN, having started at its founding in 1980, before retiring in 2009.
The journalist was also famous for questioning whether former President Barack Obama was born in the United States.
