A mystery Australian has unknowingly given up $1 million after failing to collect his division one lottery prize.

The ticket was purchased at a BP in Mawson Lakes, north of Adelaide, on September 27, 2023, but was not claimed before passing its one-year expiry date.

Lott spokeswoman Anna Hobdell said the winner would have received his prize if he had simply registered his ticket on a player card or online.

“Our mystery winner has likely been going through his year as normal with no idea that he became an overnight millionaire more than a year ago,” he said.

“If the mystery winner had registered their ticket on a player card or online, they would have already received their million-dollar treasure.”

Hobdell said any prize not claimed for a year will be forfeited to the South Australian Lotteries Commission.

However, the mystery winner could still claim the million dollars by submitting their ticket, a prize claim form and an ex gratia legal declaration form to the commission.

This incurs a $22 fee to cover searches, due diligence checks and administrative costs.

“This also serves as an important reminder to record your notes,” Ms Hobdell said.

The winning numbers for the Monday and Wednesday X Lotto 4325 draw on September 27 were 15, 41, 14, 35, 4 and 5, while the supplementary numbers were 20 and 37.

It comes after a western Sydney mum won a huge $22 million Powerball prize and immediately told her co-workers shortly after.

The woman in her 30s, from St Clair, had the only division one winning entry nationwide in Powerball draw 1479 on September 20, pocketing $22,207,849.80.

‘I can’t believe it. I saw I had won and thought it was only $11, then I scrolled down and realized I had won the whole thing. I’m only 30 years old. “This is going to completely change my life,” he said.

But in a move she might regret, the woman immediately told her colleagues at work about this life-changing victory.

“I got to work and couldn’t help but shout to everyone that I won the $20 million,” he said.

‘One of the boys said: “Now you’re shouting.”

‘I don’t know how I’ll be able to concentrate on the rest of the day. Luckily my day isn’t too busy.’

He also shared his touching plans for the money, saying it would transform his young family’s life forever.

‘This does a lot for me. “Buying a house and helping my family is my top priority, but I would also love to travel,” he added.
