Hours after disturbing footage emerged of Diddy punching his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office revealed it would not be able to prosecute the rapper.
It all comes down to the statute of limitations for assault, and since the date of Diddy’s alleged attack on Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel was March 5, 2016, the district attorney says the deadline to prosecute has passed.
“If the conduct described occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would not be able to file charges as the conduct would have occurred beyond the time frame in which an assault offense can be prosecuted,” the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office wrote in a statement to Instagram.
The office added that authorities have not filed charges against Diddy, real name Sean Combs, related to the attack seen on video. obtained by CNN on Friday.
The California Statute of Limitations for Simple Assault it’s a year, although aggravated assault is three years. According to the schedule, no charges could be brought against Diddy.

Images unearthed by DailyMail.com show Ventura wearing two separate outfits that night, with what appear to be several bruises visible on her body.
The horrifying video shows Diddy shirtless and with a towel around his waist, chasing Cassie down the hotel hallway.
As she tried to get into an elevator, he grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her to the ground.
He then kicked her as she lay motionless on the ground, before grabbing the two designer bags she had tried to escape with.

This is the former InterContinental hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, where Diddy allegedly attacked his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
Diddy stood over her, kicked her again, and then dragged her back to her room by her hoodie.
In a statement to DailyMail.com, Ventura attorney Douglas Wigdor said: ‘The harrowing video has only further confirmed Mr. Combs’ disturbing and predatory behavior.
“Words cannot express the courage and strength that Ms. Ventura has shown by coming forward to bring this to light.”
Ventura sued Combs last year alleging rape and a variety of other crimes, although they settled out of court in November for an undisclosed amount.
In his lawsuit, Ventura recalled an incident similar to the one captured by security footage from the Los Angeles hotel.
The lawsuit states: “Around March 2016, Mr. Combs, during an FO at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Mr. Combs became very drunk and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, leaving her with a black eye. .
“After he fell asleep, Ms. Ventura tried to leave the hotel room, but when she left, Ms. Combs woke up and started yelling at him. He followed her down the hallway while yelling at her.

“He grabbed her and then picked up glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to break around her as she ran towards the elevator to escape.”
Ventura claimed that he escaped from Diddy, but ultimately decided to return for fear of upsetting him.
After the lawsuit was settled, Ventura issued a statement: “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on the basis that I have some level of control.”
“I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”
In his own statement following the settlement, Diddy’s attorney said his agreement in the case was in no way an admission of guilt. His attorney added that he denies all of Ventura’s allegations.

Exactly what precipitated the raids on Combs’ properties on March 25 has not yet been revealed.
Ventura and Combs dated between 2007 and 2018, after meeting in 2006, when she was 19 and he was 37.
Footage from the March 2016 incident comes just two months after Homeland Security raided Combs’ homes in Miami and Los Angeles as part of a sex trafficking investigation.
He is also fighting lawsuits from other accusers alleging abuse and sexual misconduct.
