The 65-year-old presenter premiered The Island Swimmer in February, a story of new beginnings, family and friendship.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, the mother-of-one shared a photo in a swimsuit while frolicking on the beach in Scotland with her friend.

Lorraine captioned the post: ‘Celebrating in Orkney with my lovely friend Nick when my first novel The Island Swimmer became a bestseller this year!

‘THANK YOU to everyone who bought the book. Your lovely comments have overwhelmed me. It’s on sale right now if you need a little more Christmas press. I’m working hard on the follow up! ‘

The post comes after Lorraine viewers claimed the Scottish TV show host “deserves an acting award” after her “shockingly unattractive” portrait was revealed on the Portrait Artist of the Year show.

The televised contest encourages artists to enter with a self-portrait they have created in the past five years and are selected on merit by a panel of expert judges.

But viewers at home were shocked last week when they saw an unsightly portrait of Lorraine hanging in the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh after an art competition winner was commissioned to paint her.

The striking painting showed the presenter sitting cross-legged in a high-backed chair, dressed in a vibrant red tartan coat.

London-born Brogan Bertie, who was tasked with capturing the famous TV presenter on canvas, said: “Oh, I found Lorraine’s response very emotional.”

“A big part of the concern when taking a portrait is that the subject likes it. Or that she’s going to see something of herself in him.

“And I think the fact that she had such an emotional reaction and felt so connected immediately felt really special and I couldn’t have asked for more from her.”

Lorraine could then be heard saying in a voiceover: “I knew, having seen your other work, I knew it was going to be fantastic.”

The camera then panned to Lorraine, and the TV presenter could be seen shaking her head as she praised the artist, saying: “But honestly, this is a whole other league.”

He added: “This is so special, it really is.”

But viewers weren’t convinced Lorraine loved the painting and took to X, formerly Twitter, to call the presenter an “excellent actress”.
