Lori Vallow’s best friend speaks up for the first time, revealing new details about the ‘cult mother’ whose two children have not been seen since September last year.
On Friday, Melanie Gibb sat down for an interview with journalist Nate Eaton, after spending five months in hiding after an unsealed arrest warrant alleged that Vallow had asked her to lie about her children’s whereabouts.
Vallow is currently behind bars on charges of child neglect and abandonment in connection with the disappearance of her daughter, 17-year-old Tylee Ryan, and her son, seven-year-old son Joshua “JJ” Vallow.
In a sneak peak of Gibb’s interview – broadcast in full on Tuesday – she does not address the question of whether Vallow had actually asked her to lie about Tylee and JJ’s whereabouts.
However, Gibb announces that Vallow’s husband, Chad Daybell, called her “very nervous” and “very scared” and asked her not to answer the phone when the police called.
She further claims that best friend Vallow became more and more obsessed with ‘dangerous teachings’ after meeting Daybell – a prominent Doomsday author.
“Once, Lori said to me, ‘If Chad is Satan, he is definitely a good one,” said Gibb on the sneak peak.

Valloow’s children, Tylee and JJ, disappeared in September, but were never reported missing by their mother
Gibb further claims that Vallow believed that her seven-year-old son JJ was “a zombie” and slowly began to believe “that everyone in her life was turning into zombies.”
In the interview, Gibb does not reveal whether she is still friends with Vallow.
However, she says Vallow hasn’t told her about the death of the husband she married before Daybell for four days.
Vallow’s fourth husband, Charles Vallow, was shot dead last July – just four months before she married Daybell.
Gibb reveals that Vallow’s husband, Chad Daybell, called her “very nervous” and “very scared” and asked her not to answer the phone when the police called.
Vallow married Daybell last November – two months after her children, Tylee and JJ, disappeared. Vallow’s best friend, Melanie Gibb, says the “cult mother” became increasingly obsessed with “dangerous teachings” after meeting Daybell – a prominent Doomsday author

The interview with Vallow’s best friend Melanie Gibb comes after Vallow’s mother Janice Cox and sister Summer Shiflet first broke their silence to defend her in an interview with CBS News last week.
In a new clip from the interview, reporter Jonathan Vigliotti asked the women if they thought it was possible that Vallow’s missing children were “in a bunker somewhere?”
“I think that’s possible,” Cox said, but she didn’t tell where she thought the kids were.
Lori Vallow’s mother Janice Cox said ‘it is possible’ that the ‘cult’ mother’s missing children are hiding somewhere in a bunker during an interview with CBS News
Investigators say Tylee was last seen walking her family in Yellowstone National Park on September 8. Meanwhile, all traces of JJ disappeared on September 23 – but Cox claims to have spoken to the missing 7-year-old by phone on October 1.
She and Shiflet also didn’t explain why Vallow has so far refused to collaborate with investigators who were trying to find out what happened to her children.
When asked about the matter, they answered at the same time, “Well, that’s a great question,” laughing at each other.
But the women insisted that Vallow do not hurt any of her children.
“She has invested in those children all her life,” said Cox. “So we know there is another side to it. We don’t know what it is. But we know her. ‘
Tylee and JJ disappeared eight months ago in September, shortly after moving from Arizona to Rexburg, Idaho.
Investigators say Tylee was last seen hiking with her family in Yellowstone National Park on September 8. Meanwhile, all traces of JJ disappeared on September 23 – but Cox claims to have spoken to the missing seven-year-old by phone on October 1.
“I talked to him,” she said, before fainting, “he just answers the phone, you know, and he knows – you know, he knows who we are.”
Cox provided CBS News with a phone bill that she says shows the alleged phone call. Rexburg police have not yet returned a DailyMail.com request for comment on Cox’s claim.
During the same fall, the two children disappeared, Vallow married Chad Daybell. Daybell’s 29-year-old wife, Tammy, had died a few weeks earlier.
Vallow and Daybell fled from Idaho to Hawaii in late November, a day after police began asking questions about JJ and Tylee’s whereabouts.
“I talked to him,” she said, before vaguely saying, “He just answers the phone, you know, and he knows – you know, he knows who we are.”
Vallow’s request to lower her bond from $ 1 million to between $ 100,000 and $ 250,000 was rejected by an Idaho judge last month
Authorities succeeded the couple later on January 25 in the city of Princeville in Kauai and filed a court order to physically submit the children to the authorities in Idaho within five days.
After failing to do so, Vallow was arrested on February 20 on charges of abandoned children and abandoned and then returned to Idaho, where she is held on $ 1 million bail.
Despite the couple seemingly fleeing to Hawaii without JJ and Tylee, Cox insisted that Vallow “never” uttered any grudge against her children or blamed them for the failure of her previous four marriages.
When asked why they, as “loving grandmother” and “loving aunt”, hadn’t approached Vallow to tell them where the kids are, Shiflet replied, “She can’t tell us.
“She’s in jail. It is not – everything is included. So she’s not going to tell us, she can’t discuss the matter, “Shiflet said.
“I’m sure they didn’t hurt those kids,” Cox agreed.
The case of missing JJ and Tylee caught national attention when disclosures that police were also investigating three mysterious deaths related to Vallow and Daybell.
Four people with ties to Lori Vallow died prematurely (summit in court on March 6). Those dead are: Lori’s brother Alex Cox (left), her new husband Chad Daybell’s previous wife Tammy Daybell (second left), her fourth husband Charles Vallow (center), her third husband Joseph Ryan (second right). Her sister Stacey Cox Cope (right) died in 1998. It is not clear what caused Cope’s death
The first death associated with the case was Tammy Daybell. Her death was initially listed as a natural cause when Chad Daybell refused an autopsy. Many of Tammy’s friends have insisted that the 49-year-old be in good shape and doubted the original statement.
Authorities dug up Tammy Daybell’s body in December after they determined her death could be related to JJ and Tylee’s disappearance.
The results of the autopsy and toxicology tests have not yet been published.

The second death was that of Charles Vallow, Lori’s husband of more than a decade, who filed for divorce five months before she was shot and killed by her brother Alex on July 11, 2019.
Charles and Lori had argued when he picked up JJ, their adoptive son, from her home in Chandler, Arizona.
Alex intervened and fired two deadly shots into Charles’s chest.
Police initially determined that Alex was acting in self-defense, but the case was reopened with the search for JJ and Tylee, who had moved with their mother to Idaho, where Chad lived, in August.
An email from Phoenix police leaked earlier this month revealed investigators nearly charged Lori with Charles’s death.
Early December court documents indicated that Charles’s death was being investigated as “conspiracy murder.”
Less than two weeks later, Alex was found dead in Gilbert, Arizona, on December 12, the day after Tammy’s body was excavated.
His death, at the age of 51, is now under investigation while police are waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause.
An extra untimely death near Lori was unearthed this week: her older sister Stacey Lynne Cox Cope.
Stacey died in 1998 at the age of 31. The cause is unclear and it is not suggested that Lori was involved in her death.
