An Australian Federal Police officer has been tragically dead in Canberra.

The man’s body, which had a long career with the Act Police, was discovered on Wednesday night.

“It is with great sadness that the AFP confirms the death of an AFP member in Canberra today,” said an AFP spokesman.

There were no ‘suspicious circumstances’ about death, said AFP.

The agency is providing support to the family of the member and all its staff.

“Our thoughts were with them during this distressing time,” said an AFP spokesman.

‘AFP will also offer attention and support to all its members during this pain time.

“The Primary Health and Welfare Support Service of the AFP, Shield, was activated after this incident.”
