The global travel giant Lonely Planet has revealed the 10 best regions in the world to visit in 2019.
As part of its annual "Best in Travel" series, the tourism site shortlisted the Red Center of Australia in the Northern Territory at number four.
The Red Center was recognized for its otherworldly landscape of desert plains, mountain ranges and rocky gorges, as well as its spiritual connection with some of the most sacred sites of aboriginal Australia.

"In the spiritual heart of the Red Center of Australia is the most recognized wonder of the country, Uluru," said Lonely Planet.
& # 39; In 2019, this sacred site is finally being closed to climbers, almost 150 years after the explorers decided to conquer the rock.
"Instead, visitors will find that this World Heritage site, known for its outstanding natural and cultural values, conquers them."
The main attractions at the Red Center include Uluru-Kata Tjuta (Ayers Rock and Olgas), Watarrka National Park and nearby Alice Springs.
Of special mention was the recently inaugurated Litchfield National Park of the Northern Territory, which is the "most visited park in the Top End of Australia".

The Italian province of Piedmont won first place on the regional list, thanks to its wealth of historical and cultural offerings that include Lake Orta, the Egizio Museum and the Borromean Islands.
Turin, the capital of Piedmont, also has well-known Egyptian cars and museums, and is known for its sophisticated fusion cuisine inspired by neighboring France and Switzerland.
The Red Center beat tough competition from internationally renowned areas such as the Scottish Highlands (5th), the Far East of Russia (6th), Normandy in northwestern France (9th) and the Elqui Valley in Chile (10th) ).
Sri Lanka won the trophy in the Best Country category thanks to its many attractions, including the ancient ruins of Sigiriya, the Sacred Temple of Teeth, the Yala National Park and the famous panoramic train from Kandy to Ella.
Sri Lanka was followed closely by Germany in second place and the southern African nation of Zimbabwe in the third.

Panama ranked fourth, with the mystical eastern destinations of Kyrgyzstan and Jordan taking the fifth and sixth respectively.
Despite the recent natural disasters, Indonesia took seventh place, while Eastern Europe received a nod and Belarus took eighth place.
The volcanic island of São Tomé and Príncipe off the African coast came in ninth thanks to its incredible biodiversity, which includes rainforests, beaches, striking rock formations and coral.
The small coastal nation of Belize in Central America completed the first ten.
