# WhatsNew2Day > WhatsNew2Day (whatsnew2day.com) is an exact-edition software finder for PDF editors and screen recorders. It compares specific editions using official vendor sources, attributed user reports and scoped original tests, kept as separate evidence types. Rankings are not paid; affiliate status is not a matching input. Editor: Feroz Sheikh (https://whatsnew2day.com/about/feroz-sheikh). Unknown or not-run results are not evidence of availability; a published test result applies only to its recorded edition, task and environment. ## Start here ### WhatsNew2Day software finder URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/ Find the exact PDF editor or screen recorder edition for your task, device and budget. ### Software Alternatives Finder: Compare by Task URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/software Compare PDF editors and screen recorders by your device, required features, license type and budget. Compare exact editions, platforms, free-plan limits and known prices. Start with the capabilities you would lose by switching. OCR, editing, forms and redaction need separate evidence. FAQ: Q: Which Acrobat alternative is best? A: There is no single winner for every PDF workflow. Start with your operating system and the features you cannot lose. The finder separates documented candidates from independently tested exact matches. Q: Can I use a free edition instead? A: Possibly, if its feature scope and usage limits cover your tasks. Choose “Free editions only”, then inspect the exact edition’s limitations and source evidence. Q: Is Reader the same as Standard or Pro? A: No. Adobe Reader covers viewing, annotation and supported form filling. Standard and Pro are separate paid editions, and the catalog preserves their different documented scopes. Q: Does an advertised redaction tool prove permanent removal? A: No. Inspect the saved output and the original test record. The published PDF24 Browser result is scoped to its synthetic fixture and does not certify all files or desktop editions. Q: Where should I start on my device? A: Use the Windows or Mac alternative page for a device-specific starting point, then inspect each task and its sources. ### Free PDF Editors for Windows: Acrobat Alternatives URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/adobe-acrobat/windows Compare free Windows PDF tools, including the Edge reader, PDF24 Creator and desktop candidates. Check editing, forms, OCR and exact-edition limits. Start with Edge when you need to read or complete a supported form. For editing, OCR or new fields, inspect a Windows edition that documents that exact task. These are candidates, not a tested best-of ranking. ### Free PDF Editors for Mac: Acrobat Alternatives URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/adobe-acrobat/mac Compare free Mac PDF workflows, starting with Apple Preview. Review form filling, page organization and the limits of macOS editing and OCR candidates. Preview is a built-in starting point for forms, markup and page organization. Changing an original paragraph or a scan is a separate job; Windows-only tools are excluded from this Mac shortlist. ### Loom Alternatives: Recording, Exports & Sharing URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/loom Compare Loom alternatives for screen recording, local video exports and hosted links. Check webcam, audio, watermarks, plan limits and team costs. Plan recording, storage and sharing before comparing subscriptions. A local recorder and a hosted video library solve different jobs. FAQ: Q: Can I keep using my old video links after switching? A: Do not assume so. Check the current provider’s plan and cancellation terms, keep permitted exports and record where each old link needs to be replaced. Q: Should I compare the number of creators or viewers? A: Start with the people who need recording licenses, then check the vendor’s specific seat rules. Viewer access, storage and retention can have separate limits. Q: Does a downloaded file update old Loom links? A: No. Exporting a video does not change the links embedded in documents. Keep a migration ledger and replace each reference after checking the new destination. Q: Do you test paid plans? A: We currently use attributed user reports and official sources for paid editions. These do not count as our own hands-on results. Q: Where can I see the recording protocol? A: The Testing page describes the five-minute screen, camera and microphone fixture and the signed-out sharing checks. ### Foxit PDF Editor Alternatives: Tasks, Limits & Costs URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/foxit Compare Foxit PDF Editor alternatives by task, operating system, source evidence and known costs. Check edition limits and what you need to verify before switching. Keep the PDF workflow you need when leaving Foxit. Separate existing-text editing, OCR, reusable forms and permanent redaction before comparing editions. FAQ: Q: Which free Foxit replacement edits existing PDF text? A: PDFgear Windows and Sejda Desktop Free are documented candidates for text editing, with different platform and usage limits. These are source-based starting points, not a published hands-on ranking. ### Nitro PDF Alternatives: Tasks, Limits & Costs URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/nitro Compare Nitro PDF alternatives by task, operating system, source evidence and known costs. Check edition limits and what you need to verify before switching. Compare replacements for Nitro PDF Standard by editing, OCR, form requirements and license term. Keep Standard subscriptions separate from Nitro Classic’s three-year term. FAQ: Q: Is Nitro Classic the same purchase as Nitro Standard? A: No. The current vendor pricing page presents Standard as a subscription and Classic as a three-year license. Do not substitute their prices or feature entitlements. ### PDFgear Alternatives: Tasks, Limits & Costs URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/pdfgear Compare PDFgear alternatives by task, operating system, source evidence and known costs. Check edition limits and what you need to verify before switching. Look beyond a zero purchase price: compare alternatives for the PDFgear platform and task you use, especially offline processing, forms and scans. FAQ: Q: Does a free PDF tool automatically work offline? A: No. Downloading, activation, local tasks and optional cloud features are separate questions. Check the exact edition and task instead of inferring offline behavior from price. ### OBS Alternatives: Recording vs Streaming vs Sharing URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/obs Choose which OBS workflow to replace: local files, live streaming or hosted links. Compare documented candidates and see where streaming tests are still missing. Replace the part of OBS you need: local recording, webcam composition, streaming or sharing. A hosted video library is a different workflow from a local recorder. FAQ: Q: Is ShareX an OBS replacement on macOS? A: The listed ShareX edition is for Windows. It is not a macOS replacement. Filter by operating system before comparing recording features. ### Camtasia Alternatives: Editing vs Capture vs Links URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/alternatives/camtasia Plan a Camtasia replacement around timeline editing, simple screen capture or hosted walkthroughs. Check the separate editor, export rights and task evidence. Choose a Camtasia alternative by the output you need: a raw local recording, a quick explanation link or an edited training video. FAQ: Q: Can OBS replace the complete Camtasia editing workflow? A: OBS covers recording and streaming workflows. Treat post-production editing as a separate requirement; a free OBS download does not establish an equivalent timeline editor or hosted video library. ## Guides ### Snipping Tool Recording Stops: No Documented Time Limit URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/snipping-tool-screen-recording-stops Microsoft’s Snipping Tool help page does not publish a maximum recording length. Use the documented checks when a Windows recording stops on its own, will not start, or seems to hit a time limit. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool help does not publish a maximum length for a video snip: you select Start, and the recording continues until you select Stop. A clip that ends by itself, or a Record control that never appears, is a separate problem from a timer on that help page. Steps: 1. Confirm which Windows instructions apply. Microsoft’s Surface help says Windows 10 users can record with Clipchamp, and gives Windows 11 steps that use Snipping Tool: open it, select the Video icon, then New, drag a rectangle, select Start, and select Stop when you are finished. The main Snipping Tool help page applies to Windows 11 and Windows 10. Its Windows 10 instructions list image snips and do not list a video snip. 2. On Windows 11, open a video snip with the Record button and then New, or press Windows logo key + Shift + R. Windows logo key + Shift + S opens an image snapshot. If you only see screenshot modes, update Snipping Tool from the Microsoft Store. Screen recording began as an app update: version 11.2211.35.0 started rolling out to the Dev Channel on 8 December 2022. 3. Select the rectangular area, then select Start. The December 2022 preview said some people would notice a slight delay between selecting Start and the moment recording begins. The same post’s 26 January 2023 update, version 11.2212.24.0 in the Beta Channel, added the ability to pause while recording and said performance and reliability improved. Pause is a control in that update. The current help page still says you finish by selecting Stop. 4. If Record or the video icon is missing on a work or school PC, ask the administrator whether recording was turned off. Microsoft Learn documents the user policy AllowScreenRecorder for Windows 11, version 24H2 and later, on Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise / IoT Enterprise LTSC. The editions table marks Pro as not applicable. Disabling the policy makes screen recording inaccessible in Snipping Tool. Enabling it, or leaving it unconfigured, leaves recording accessible. The default value is enabled. That policy removes access to the feature. It does not publish a mid-recording timer. 5. After Stop, save the recording or select Edit in Clipchamp. Then check the folders Microsoft names. The Snipping Tool help page says a captured snip is automatically saved to the Screenshots folder, and that Settings can change automatic save. Separately, Microsoft announced automatic save of screen recordings to the Screen Recordings folder inside Videos, with a Snipping Tool setting to turn it off: version 11.2405.24.0 and newer for Canary and Dev on 7 June 2024, and version 11.2405.31.0 and newer for Beta and Release Preview on 14 June 2024. Those posts describe Insider rollouts. Check both folders and the in-app setting before treating a closed window as a failed recording. 6. Keep Clipchamp’s 30-minute figure attached to Clipchamp. Clipchamp’s help says webcam and screen recordings in the video editor are limited to 30 minutes, and that editing projects have no enforced length limit, with a recommendation of 10 minutes or less for performance. Snipping Tool can hand a finished snip to Clipchamp with Edit in Clipchamp. The Snipping Tool help page does not state 30 minutes, 10 minutes, or any other maximum for its own video snip. 7. If the saved video has a picture and no sound, use the Snipping Tool audio guide. Optional PC audio and microphone recording was announced for Snipping Tool version 11.2307.44.0 on 31 August 2023. A silent file is a sound-control problem, separate from a recording that stops. 8. If you need a long meeting, separate audio tracks, or a recorder with limits you can compare on our pages, open the Xbox Game Bar, Clipchamp, OBS Studio and ShareX records. This checklist does not time those apps or Snipping Tool. FAQ: Q: Does Snipping Tool screen recording have a time limit? A: Microsoft’s Snipping Tool help page does not publish a maximum recording length. It says to select Start and, when you are done, select Stop. Clipchamp’s help says webcam and screen recordings in the Clipchamp video editor are limited to 30 minutes. That figure is on the Clipchamp page. It is not stated as a Snipping Tool maximum on the Snipping Tool help page. These pages were checked on 20 October 2026. Q: Why does Snipping Tool screen recording stop on its own? A: The Microsoft pages checked for this guide do not document an automatic stop timer for a Snipping Tool video snip. A December 2022 preview post described a delay after Start, and its 26 January 2023 update added pause. Pause and a short delay are different from a clip ending at a fixed time. If the recording control is missing on a managed PC, the AllowScreenRecorder policy can make screen recording inaccessible. That policy removes access. It does not set a recording length. Q: Why is Snipping Tool screen recording not working? A: On Windows 10, Microsoft’s Surface help points screen recording to Clipchamp, and the Windows 10 Snipping Tool instructions do not list a video snip. On Windows 11, use Record, then New, or Windows logo key + Shift + R, and update Snipping Tool from the Microsoft Store if that control is missing. Windows logo key + Shift + S opens a screenshot. On Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 11 version 24H2 and later, an administrator can disable recording with AllowScreenRecorder. The policy table marks Pro as not applicable. Q: Where is the file if the recording seemed to stop? A: Check the Snipping Tool preview and its Save or Edit in Clipchamp action. Also check the Screenshots folder named on the Snipping Tool help page, and the Screen Recordings folder inside Videos named in Microsoft’s June 2024 Insider posts for automatic recording save. Those posts describe Insider rollouts of specific Snipping Tool versions, and settings can turn automatic save off. This guide did not record a clip, so it cannot tell you which folder your installed version uses. Sources: Microsoft Support: Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots (video snip steps). Find the capture-bar audio controls, fix silent recordings and test before a long take. Press Windows logo key + Shift + R, select an area, then check the two audio controls on the capture bar before you press Start: one for PC (system) audio and one for your microphone. Microsoft added optional system-audio and microphone recording to Snipping Tool in 2023; if your capture bar shows no audio controls, update Snipping Tool first. Record a 10-second test and play it back before recording anything long. Steps: 1. Open the recording overlay with Windows logo key + Shift + R, or open Snipping Tool, choose Record and select New. 2. Drag to select the area you want to record. Before pressing Start, look at the capture bar for the system-audio and microphone buttons. 3. Decide what each control should do for this recording: PC audio on or off, microphone on or off. If you have more than one microphone, choose the right device from the microphone menu. 4. If the microphone control is unavailable, open Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and allow Snipping Tool to use the microphone, then restart the recording overlay. 5. Record a 10-second test that includes a sentence spoken into the microphone and a sound playing on the PC. Stop and play the result with headphones. 6. Only after the test sounds right, record the real take. Save it, then open the saved file from its folder (not just the preview) to confirm both sound sources are present. Press Shift-Command-5, choose a record tool, open Options and pick your microphone under Microphone, then click Record. That records your voice. Apple’s Screenshot guide lists a microphone choice but no option for the Mac’s own (internal) sound, so to record app or system audio you need a recorder that captures it — for example OBS Studio on macOS 13 or later, which documents desktop and per-app audio capture. Steps: 1. Decide what you need to hear: only your voice (microphone), only the Mac’s sound (an app, video or call), or both. 2. For your voice: press Shift-Command-5, choose Record Entire Screen, Record Selected Window or Record Selected Portion, open Options and select a microphone so a checkmark appears. Choose where to save under “Save to”. 3. Click Record. To stop, click the stop button in the menu bar. Recordings are saved as .mov files whose names begin with “Screen Recording”. 4. For the Mac’s own sound: use a recorder that supports it. In OBS Studio 30 or later on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, add a macOS Audio Capture source for all desktop audio or one application, or use a macOS Screen Capture source, which also carries audio. 5. Grant the Screen Recording permission the recorder asks for in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then restart the recorder if prompted. 6. Make a 10-second test with sound playing and a spoken sentence. Play the saved file with headphones before you record the real take. Duplicate first because Preview autosaves, then check page count, order and forms. Duplicate your PDFs first (File → Duplicate), because Preview saves changes automatically. Then open both files, choose View → Thumbnails, and drag page thumbnails from one sidebar into the other — or drag a whole PDF from Finder into the sidebar. Reorder pages by dragging, then check the page count of the combined file. Steps: 1. Make copies first: in Preview choose File → Duplicate for each PDF you will change. Apple warns that changes to a Preview document are saved automatically. 2. Write down the page count of each source PDF so you can check the result. 3. Open the PDFs and choose View → Thumbnails in each window to show the page sidebar. 4. Drag the thumbnails you want from one sidebar into the other. Command-click to pick pages that are not next to each other. To add a whole PDF, drag its icon from Finder into the sidebar. 5. Drag thumbnails to put pages in the right order. Drop pages at the end or between existing pages. 6. Check the combined file: total page count, page order, rotation, and that links or form fields you rely on still behave as expected. Keep the originals until you are satisfied. Sources: Apple Support: Combine PDFs in Preview on Mac ### PDF-XChange Editor: Avoid Demo Watermarks on Save URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/pdf-xchange-editor-avoid-demo-watermarks Check PDF-XChange licensed tools before saving. Preserve the original, use the hide-tools setting carefully, and verify a saved copy with our reusable checklist. PDF-XChange Editor does not watermark every free save. Watermarks appear when you use features not covered by your license. Keep the original PDF untouched, check the tool’s license requirement, and save a separate test copy before doing important work. Hiding paid tools reduces accidental use; it is not a guarantee that every output will be watermark-free. Steps: 1. Keep an untouched original outside your working folder. Use a non-sensitive duplicate for the trial and give it a clear name such as working-copy.pdf. Do not start with the only copy of an important document. 2. Record your installed Editor build, Windows version, license edition and activation status. Check whether the exact tool you plan to use is covered. A paid Editor license does not automatically include every Editor Plus feature. 3. If you want to reduce accidental use of licensed tools, follow the official Help → License Key setting described below. Treat this as an interface precaution, not a watermark-removal tool or a guarantee for other PDF-XChange applications. 4. Try one intended operation on the duplicate. Read any license or demo warning before proceeding. If the required tool is not covered, stop this trial and choose a supported free workflow or an appropriately licensed edition; do not overwrite the original. 5. Save the trial output under another clearly identifiable filename, such as checked-copy.pdf. Note the exact command used, including whether it was ordinary Save As, export or optimization. Inspect the resulting file, not only the unsaved editor view. 6. Close the saved copy and reopen it in another PDF reader. Inspect every page for demo stamps, changed content, missing pages and layout damage. Check any comments or form values you intended to retain. Compare with the untouched original. 7. Record the result in the table above or the downloadable checklist. If a stamp appears, retain the original and diagnose the tool/license mismatch. A clear-looking sample confirms only that sample and operation; repeat the check when your version, edition, settings or required task changes. Sources: PDF-XChange: current downloads and free-feature limitation ; PDF-XChange: demo limitations and protecting originals ; PDF-XChange KB229: hide licensed features ; PDF-XChange KB186: why demo stamps appear ### OBS: Separate Microphone & Desktop Audio Tracks URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/obs-separate-microphone-desktop-audio Set up separate OBS microphone and desktop audio tracks, keep a full mix, and verify the result in your editor with a downloadable recording checklist. OBS needs two settings for separate recording tracks: assign each source in Advanced Audio Properties, then enable those tracks under Settings → Output → Recording. A useful starting layout is track 1 for the full mix, track 2 for the microphone and track 3 for desktop audio. Verify all three in your editor before recording important work. Steps: 1. Before changing settings, note your OBS version, operating system and existing recording/streaming track choices. Use a non-sensitive test scene or profile so you can return to the working configuration. 2. Capture the microphone and the wanted desktop sound as separate OBS sources. Speak and play a local sound separately: the expected mixer meter should respond each time. Avoid capturing the same device through both a global source and a second source. 3. Open Advanced Audio Properties from the Audio Mixer. In this example, select tracks 1 and 2 for the microphone, and tracks 1 and 3 for desktop audio. Clear the other assignments for these two sources. Check unrelated sources separately so they do not enter the supposedly isolated tracks. 4. Open Settings → Output, choose Advanced Output Mode and open Recording. Enable audio tracks 1, 2 and 3. Use a recording format that supports multiple audio tracks; the OBS guide suggests MKV. Keep your established video settings unless you have a separate reason to change them. 5. Record a short sample: say “MIC ONLY” while desktop audio is quiet, then stop speaking and play a recognizable local sound, then speak while that sound plays. Stop recording normally. This is a test for you to run, not a result we have measured. 6. Import the sample into the exact editor/version you will use. Listen to each track alone: track 1 should contain both sources, track 2 only the microphone, and track 3 only the desktop capture. Check for leakage and duplicate sound. If the editor needs MP4, follow the linked remux guide and recheck every track. 7. Make and reopen a short editor export. Use either the complete mix or your chosen isolated tracks; playing the full mix and both isolated copies together duplicates the content. Keep the sample and settings notes once the result is correct. Use the downloadable checklist and understand the Hybrid MP4 distinction. In OBS Studio, choose File → Remux Recordings, select your MKV and run Remux to create an MP4. Keep the original until picture, duration, audio tracks and an export pass in your actual editor. Remuxing changes the container—not the codec. Steps: 1. Keep the MKV unchanged. Record the OBS version, operating system, source filename, video/audio codecs and the editor edition/version you intend to use. Leave enough disk space for a separate output. 2. In OBS, open File → Remux Recordings. Use the … selector to choose the MKV, inspect the target MP4 path and avoid overwriting another file. Select Remux and wait for the completion message. 3. Open the MP4 independently of the remux dialog. Check its duration and the beginning, middle and end. Look for a missing ending, black video or changed synchronization. 4. Import the MP4 into the actual editor. Inspect every expected audio track separately; a player may play only one track. Compare against what you routed and recorded in OBS. 5. Make a short export from the editor and reopen that exported file. Check picture, sound and sync again. This is your acceptance test, not evidence that every editor supports the recording. 6. Keep the original and a backup until the handoff is accepted and your retention needs are met. For automatic remuxing, first test a non-sensitive sample with the same OBS settings. Sources: OBS: recording and remux controls ; OBS: containers and codecs ; OBS: Hybrid MP4/MOV versions and codec limits ; OBS: multiple audio tracks ### How to check offline software activation URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/check-offline-software-activation Local files do not prove an application can be installed, activated and used indefinitely without a connection. Test the four stages separately. Steps: 1. Download the installer and required language packs on an authorized connected device. Record exact app version, operating system and license type. 2. Read the activation instructions for that license. Record whether an online account, another connected device or a periodic validation is required. 3. Use a non-sensitive fixture and disconnect the test device through normal network controls. Open the app and perform the required task. Save the output under a new name. 4. Close the application, reopen the saved output and verify it in another viewer. For video, check both microphone and system audio in the exported file. 5. Record the duration of the disconnected test. A ten-minute success does not establish that a 30-day or 90-day license validation will succeed. 6. Reconnect normally and inspect optional cloud features separately. Keep installation, activation, core tasks and cloud dependencies as four recorded answers. Sources: TechSmith individual-subscription connectivity ; Camtasia offline activation exchange ; Sejda Desktop processing and free limits ### How to check a screen recording before you share it URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/check-screen-recording-export A recording preview is only one stage. Verify the saved video, audio tracks, watermark and recipient access before moving a recurring workflow. Steps: 1. Prepare a synthetic five-minute scene with a moving timer, readable small text and separate microphone and system-audio markers. Avoid private tabs and notifications. 2. Record with the exact free edition or subscription being evaluated. Write down platform, app version, resolution and export settings. 3. Export or save the video and open it in a different media player. Confirm duration, dimensions, text clarity and the presence of every expected audio marker. 4. Inspect the whole file for a watermark, missing frames and cut-off audio. Test with the plan you intend to keep; a temporary trial may have different rights. 5. If the requirement is a hosted link, open the link signed out and verify the recipient permissions. Do not change a private recording to public merely to make the test pass. 6. Record the final file size and what happens when the creator removes the link or changes permissions. Keep local export and hosted sharing results separate. One-Save Test & Output URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/pdf24-save-edits We added a unique text marker in PDF24 Online, saved once and inspected the downloaded PDF. See the real output, exact checks and existing-text limit. We added a unique text marker in PDF24 Online, used Save once, downloaded the result and inspected its text. The marker survived; the original table value did not change. Steps: 1. Keep the original file unchanged and use a non-sensitive copy. Record the exact online or desktop edition, browser or operating system, and date. 2. Add a unique text marker that cannot be confused with existing content. This tests a new overlay; do not call it an existing-text edit. 3. Use Save once and wait for a completed-job confirmation. Do not close the page until the result is available. 4. Download the result immediately under a new name. Open it in a different viewer rather than relying on the editor preview. 5. Search or extract the unique marker and a known phrase from the original. Inspect layout, metadata, forms, signatures and accessibility separately when they matter. 6. If an existing paragraph or table value must change, test that exact operation. Keep a backup and a recovery checkpoint; one successful save does not establish autosave or crash recovery. Back up files, check editing and forms, test exports and use an editable migration checklist. A replacement only works if it handles the documents you actually use. Run a small, reversible migration before changing your subscription. Steps: 1. Make a separate backup of your original PDFs, templates, stamps, certificates and form data. For Adobe cloud files, open Documents → Your documents, use the file menu and choose Download. Keep originals unchanged and private keys secure. 2. List your three most frequent jobs: changing existing text, recognizing scanned text, creating forms, signing or organizing pages. Treat each as a separate requirement. 3. Choose the exact replacement edition on the device you use. A free viewer, a standard editor and a form-building edition can have very different capabilities. 4. Try a non-sensitive copy of each document type. Save it under a new name, close the app, reopen the result in another viewer and inspect fonts, page breaks and images. 5. For forms, check that fields remain interactive and values survive a save and reopen. For OCR, compare the extracted text against a known original. Searchability alone does not prove editable layout. 6. Keep signature keys secure. An image of your signature does not replace a certificate-based digital-signature workflow. Check your recipient’s requirements. 7. Keep the current application until the replacement passes essential tasks. Exporting from Reader through Acrobat Export PDF requires a paid service. Review the exact cancellation details before confirming; third-party purchases follow the seller’s process. Do not assume fee-free cancellation or continued cloud/editing access. Sources: Adobe: download cloud documents ; Adobe: save PDFs locally ; Adobe Reader: export with the paid Export PDF service ; Adobe: review plan-specific cancellation details ; PDF-XChange edition differences ; Sejda desktop scope and limits ### Leaving Loom: Export Rights & Migration Checklist URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/guides/leave-loom-with-your-videos Plan a move from Loom: check video export rights, back up recordings, update shared links and test the replacement workflow with a practical checklist. Recording a screen, storing a video and sharing a link are three different jobs. Plan each one before you move a team away from a hosted video service. Steps: 1. Inventory important recordings and note who owns each video. Separate personal material from team-owned content before making changes. 2. Check plan, role and workspace download permissions in the linked official help. Starter does not include video downloads; eligible paid-plan roles differ. Do not assume a share-link viewer can export a video. 3. For an eligible recording, open its video page and use the download control described in the linked Loom help. Save one permitted MP4 and reopen it locally; check duration, audio and picture, and verify captions separately rather than assuming they are embedded. 4. Record where the current share links are used: documentation, support replies, onboarding pages and embedded players. Exporting a video does not update those links. 5. Decide whether you need local files only or a hosted library with permissions and share links. Add the cost and administration of any separate storage service. 6. Test the replacement with one ordinary screen, camera and microphone recording. Have another person open the result without your logged-in session. 7. Move a small batch, verify the new destinations and update the references. Keep a migration ledger and confirm access after cancellation before ending the old plan. Check text layout, OCR, form fields, offline behavior and saved output before switching. Use a small set of non-sensitive documents and a consistent checklist. One successful PDF does not demonstrate compatibility with every file or workflow. Steps: 1. Record the application name, exact edition, version, operating system and date. Take a screenshot of the edition screen if you intend to publish the result. 2. Use the same original document for each candidate. Include paragraphs, a table, a form and an image; keep a separate scanned sample for OCR. 3. Change one line of existing text. Save and reopen the result. Check adjacent text, font substitution, alignment and line wrapping. 4. Extract text from a scanned sample and compare it with the known original. Record errors and language scope rather than calling the OCR universally accurate. 5. Fill an existing form, save it and reopen it. Separately create a new field and verify it works in another reader. 6. For an offline test, separate installation, first activation, disconnected work and optional cloud features. A vendor privacy statement is not an offline test. 7. Record pass, partial or fail for each task. Keep the output and screenshots with the fixture identifier. Recheck after a relevant major version change. Understand one-year and three-year totals and unknown charges. A monthly equivalent, a one-time purchase and a free edition are not interchangeable. Compare the same number of people over the same period. Steps: 1. Select a one-year or three-year horizon and the actual number of licensed people or devices. Verify what one license includes. 2. Record the currency, region and tax basis. Do not compare different currencies as though their amounts were equivalent. 3. Include required initial purchases, recurring fees and add-ons needed for your task. Separate optional maintenance from mandatory charges. 4. Check whether the displayed monthly amount requires an annual commitment. A discounted monthly equivalent may not be available month-to-month. 5. Read the renewal and upgrade terms. A perpetual license does not automatically include future major versions or ongoing maintenance. 6. Include any separate hosting, storage or setup costs needed to make the full workflow work. Open-source licensing does not eliminate infrastructure or maintenance time. 7. Recheck current vendor terms before buying. Our calculator estimates known charges; it does not predict tax, exchange rates or future price changes. Check microphone, system audio and export format separately from a hosted share link. ### Fill an existing PDF form without buying an editor URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/fill-existing-pdf-form If the PDF already contains interactive fields, you may only need form filling. Reusable field creation and editing original text are different jobs. ### Check PDF Redaction: Hidden Text, Metadata & Test Results URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/permanently-redact-pdf Check a redacted PDF using our original PDF24 input and saved output. See hidden-text results, retained metadata and a downloadable verification checklist. A black rectangle can hide a word while leaving it recoverable. Inspect the saved output with search, copy and extraction, and examine metadata separately. ### Scanned PDF OCR: PDF24 & Sejda Test Outputs URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/edit-scanned-pdf Inspect PDF24 and Sejda Browser OCR outputs from one synthetic English page. Compare source pixels, search results, symbol errors and text-editing limits. OCR recognizes text in an image. Editing that text while preserving the page layout is a separate requirement. Check both on your actual document type. ### Create Fillable PDF Forms: Compare Editor Editions URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/create-fillable-pdf-forms Find a PDF editor that creates interactive form fields. Compare exact editions and verify form creation, saved values and compatibility with other readers. Choose form creation explicitly. Signing a document, typing on top of a page and creating reusable interactive fields are different tasks. ### Offline PDF Editors: Local Work & Activation Checks URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/offline-pdf-editor Compare PDF editors for local work. Separate installation, license activation, disconnected tasks and optional cloud features before choosing an edition. Separate local file processing from installation, activation and cloud features. An offline label only makes sense for a specific task and environment. ### Record and Share Your Screen: Find the Right App URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/use-cases/record-and-share-screen Find software to record your screen and share the result. Compare local exports, hosted links, permissions, watermarks and the full delivery workflow. Decide whether you need a local video file or a hosted link with permissions. A recording app alone may not replace the whole sharing workflow. ## Comparisons ### Sejda Online Free vs Desktop Free URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/sejda-online-free-vs-sejda-desktop-free Compare Sejda Online Free and Desktop Free: server vs local processing, 3 tasks per hour vs per day, document limits and existing-text scope. Choose where the PDF may be processed before comparing convenience. Sejda Online Free uploads the file for server processing, states automatic deletion after two hours, and limits free use to 200 pages or 50 MB and three tasks per hour. Sejda Desktop Free documents local processing, but its free allowance is three tasks per day and includes separate document limits. Both document existing-text editing; scanned-image text requires a separate OCR workflow. The browser editor's numeric build was not exposed, and its controlled upload could not be completed on 26 September 2026; no editor-fidelity result is claimed. A separate online OCR-tool run on 3 October 2026 produced searchable text from one synthetic page, with symbol errors. That result does not establish editing quality or transfer to Desktop. ### PDF-XChange Editor vs Plus: OCR, Forms & Cost URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/pdf-xchange-editor-vs-pdf-xchange-editor-plus Compare PDF-XChange Editor ($62) and Editor Plus ($79): Enhanced OCR, form creation, document comparison, perpetual licensing and maintenance. The current single-user prices are USD $62 for Editor and USD $79 for Editor Plus, a $17 difference checked on 24 September 2026. Choose Plus only when you need its documented Enhanced OCR, form-field creation, document comparison, dynamic stamps, form identification or placeholders. Both are Windows desktop editions with perpetual per-user licensing and one year of maintenance included. Manual offline activation still requires a second connected device for the license exchange. These are vendor-documented differences, not a hands-on v11 application test; compare a saved interactive form and inspect OCR errors on your own files before deciding. ### PDF24 Creator vs Sejda Desktop Free URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/pdf24-creator-vs-sejda-desktop-free PDF24 Creator vs Sejda Desktop Free: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Choose the operating system first. PDF24 Creator is a Windows toolkit; Sejda Desktop Free also supports macOS and Linux. For an existing paragraph change, adding a text overlay is insufficient, so read the editing cell rather than assuming every PDF toolkit can perform that job. Sejda’s free plan also has daily task and document limits. Those limits may matter more than the zero purchase price for a batch of files. Try the same document, save under a new name, and reopen it in another viewer. The completed PDF24 Online redaction result does not apply to PDF24 Creator in this comparison. ### OBS Studio vs Loom Starter URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/obs-studio-vs-loom-starter OBS Studio vs Loom Starter: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Choose the delivery route before the recorder. OBS Studio is built around local recording and streaming; Loom Starter packages capture with a hosted library and share links. A file produced by OBS still needs storage, access control and a delivery service if the recipient expects a browser link. Loom Starter’s recording and library limits can instead constrain a recurring workflow, and its plan does not supply the same download rights as Business. Compare a complete handoff, including playback while signed out. The zero purchase price of either edition does not establish equal hosting costs or identical export permissions. ### PDFgear Windows vs PDF-XChange Editor URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/pdfgear-windows-vs-pdf-xchange-editor PDFgear Windows vs PDF-XChange Editor: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Both candidates target Windows, but they have different purchase and feature boundaries. PDFgear’s free position makes it a possible starting point for routine edits, while PDF-XChange Editor is a paid perpetual edition with a separate Plus upgrade. Do not buy the ordinary Editor expecting the form-authoring entitlement documented for Plus. Likewise, the Windows PDFgear record does not inherit a capability from the Mac product. Check existing-text editing, scanned content and form creation as distinct tasks. A same-file trial should inspect saved output and any edition restrictions. An advertised redaction control is not a verified permanent-removal result. ### Adobe Acrobat Standard vs Pro URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/adobe-acrobat-standard-vs-adobe-acrobat-pro Adobe Acrobat Standard vs Pro: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Start with whether your work involves scanned documents or advanced PDF protection. Adobe’s current comparison places OCR and redaction in Pro, while Standard covers routine editing, organization and signing. A person filling an existing form should not confuse that task with authoring new interactive fields. The prices here are individual annual commitments billed monthly, so multiplying the displayed month rate does not make the plan cancel-anytime. Teams and optional AI services are separate purchases. Neither subscription has been independently tested for this record. Compare its documented scope with your own files before paying for capabilities you may not need. ### Adobe Acrobat Reader vs Standard URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/adobe-acrobat-reader-vs-adobe-acrobat-standard Adobe Acrobat Reader vs Standard: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Reader is a useful baseline when the job is reviewing, filling or signing a document that already exists. Adobe explicitly reserves existing-text and image editing for a paid Standard or Pro subscription. That difference matters more than a shared Acrobat name. If you only need to complete a supported form, check Reader’s saved output before assuming a subscription is necessary. If you must rewrite the original paragraph, a comment or free-text annotation will not meet the same acceptance check. Standard’s charge uses an annual commitment, and this comparison does not infer paid entitlements from a review of the free reader. ### Apple Preview vs PDF Expert for Mac URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/apple-preview-vs-pdf-expert Apple Preview vs PDF Expert for Mac: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Preview provides a built-in baseline for a Mac document workflow: existing forms, annotations and page organization are documented without a separate app purchase. PDF Expert’s paid Mac edition belongs in the decision when its additional editing workflow meets a task that Preview has not established. Start with a copy of a real document and check whether you need to change original content or merely add markup. Preserve interactive fields and review the file outside the editor after saving. Neither an attractive interface nor a visible redaction control proves permanent removal. The annual PDF Expert record is separate from its lifetime license. ### Microsoft Edge PDF Reader vs PDF24 Creator URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/microsoft-edge-pdf-vs-pdf24-creator Microsoft Edge PDF Reader vs PDF24 Creator: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. On Windows, Edge’s built-in reader is a convenient first check for viewing, annotations and supported form filling. Its documented XFA limitation may rule it out for a particular form before another feature matters. PDF24 Creator is a broader local toolkit with OCR and page operations, but adding text is still not proof of reliable paragraph editing. Choose the task rather than treating a reader and a toolkit as interchangeable editors. Save a non-sensitive sample and reopen it in the recipient’s viewer. Both records have free purchase bases; that does not establish identical form behavior or a completed disconnected-work test. ### Stirling PDF Self-hosted vs PDF24 Online Tools URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/stirling-pdf-vs-pdf24-tools Stirling PDF Self-hosted vs PDF24 Online Tools: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. The key choice is who operates the processing environment. PDF24 Online uses the vendor’s web service; a Stirling PDF instance can be operated by you or another administrator. Uploading to a self-hosted server is still a network transfer, even when that server is under your control. Stirling’s deployment, OCR dependencies and licensing need to be included in the decision, so an unresolved complete cost stays unknown. PDF24 Online has scoped Browser redaction, add-text/save and synthetic OCR results with explicit limits. The 3 October 2026 OCR result had searchable test markers but symbol errors. These outcomes cannot be transferred to Stirling or to PDF24 Creator. Test the saved output and data path of the exact deployment you intend to use. ### Nitro PDF Standard vs PDF-XChange Editor Plus URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/nitro-pdf-standard-vs-pdf-xchange-editor-plus Nitro PDF Standard vs PDF-XChange Editor Plus: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. The current Nitro Standard subscription and PDF-XChange Editor Plus represent different licensing choices for a Windows PDF workflow. Nitro’s Standard documentation lists editing and batch OCR; Plus explicitly identifies Enhanced OCR and form creation in the PDF-XChange family. Check the exact field-authoring requirement before selecting either product. Nitro’s old Pro label and its separate Classic three-year license should not be substituted into this comparison. The Nitro price shown with this comparison comes from the same edition record as the detail page. Its EUR annual quote must not be treated as a USD price or compared without checking currency and tax. Compare the documented workflow first, then confirm current license, renewal and maintenance charges before purchase. ### Smallpdf Pro vs iLovePDF Premium Web URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/smallpdf-pro-vs-ilovepdf-premium Smallpdf Pro vs iLovePDF Premium Web: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Both records cover web processing, so the upload requirement is part of the choice before comparing price. Smallpdf explicitly reserves direct text editing for Pro. iLovePDF’s ordinary editor describes adding text and markup, while its dedicated Forms tool addresses interactive forms; those are separate jobs. Bundled desktop or mobile access does not establish that the web workflow keeps files local. Inspect the saved result and the vendor’s retention terms for the particular tool, especially signing. Smallpdf’s numeric quote remains unresolved in this snapshot, and the iLovePDF figure is its displayed annual basis. Unknown is not treated as cheaper. ### QuickTime Player vs OBS Studio on Mac URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/quicktime-player-vs-obs-studio QuickTime Player vs OBS Studio on Mac: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. For a Mac user, QuickTime Player opens the built-in Screenshot recorder and saves the resulting movie locally. OBS Studio addresses a broader recording and streaming workflow across several operating systems. A separate camera-recording command in QuickTime does not establish a simultaneous screen-and-camera overlay, and that cell is left unresolved here. Decide whether the job is a simple local explanation or a composed recording with additional sources. Then inspect the audio tracks, output format and full duration in another player. Neither app by itself establishes a managed team library, recipient permissions or permanent hosted links for your videos. ### Clipchamp Free vs Loom Starter URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/clipchamp-vs-loom-starter Clipchamp Free vs Loom Starter: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. The personal free Clipchamp workflow documents screen and webcam capture followed by editing and a downloadable export up to its free resolution limit. Loom Starter instead emphasizes a hosted library and links, with different recording and video-count limits. Choose whether the recipient needs a file or a link before comparing the controls. Clipchamp’s own screen-recording limit and use of premium assets also need attention. A free export entitlement does not prove that the whole browser workflow works offline. Test a short signed-out handoff and check the plan actually used; business subscriptions and paid Loom downloads are outside these two free records. ### Snagit Individual vs Camtasia Essentials URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/snagit-vs-camtasia Snagit Individual vs Camtasia Essentials: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Snagit is a candidate for quick captures and short explanations, while Camtasia Essentials focuses on editing a training video with a timeline and separate recording tracks. That editing requirement should drive the choice before bundling or price. The Snagit figure describes a non-transferable individual subscription; it is not a team license that can be reassigned. Camtasia’s free editor watermark and its different paid plans are also distinct entitlements. Check camera, microphone, system sound and the exported result on the operating system you use. A current unambiguous Camtasia price is not recorded here, so the cost difference remains unresolved. ### Acrobat Reader vs PDF24 Creator vs Sejda Free URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/adobe-acrobat-reader-vs-pdf24-creator-vs-sejda-desktop-free Acrobat Reader vs PDF24 Creator vs Sejda Free: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. These three free purchase options answer different PDF jobs. Acrobat Reader is the baseline for reviewing and completing an existing form, PDF24 Creator adds a Windows toolkit, and Sejda Desktop Free documents editing with usage limits across more desktop systems. First rule out a wrong operating system, then choose the task you cannot give up. A document that opens correctly has not yet passed an edit, OCR or form-preservation test. Keep the same original, save a separate output from each candidate and reopen every result. A daily task limit or unsupported form type can matter more than the shared free label. ### Acrobat Pro vs Foxit PDF Editor URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/adobe-acrobat-pro-vs-foxit-pdf-editor Acrobat Pro vs Foxit PDF Editor: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Start with the exact plan and platform, not the brand name. Acrobat Pro and the listed Foxit desktop edition both target PDF editing, but a product family page does not prove every subscription includes the same OCR, form and redaction entitlements. Use the evidence table to identify documented tasks and unresolved requirements. For a form workflow, create a new field and reopen the saved file in another reader; filling a supplied form is a different test. For scans, check recognition and editable layout separately. Compare annual commitments, renewal terms and activation on the same device. Neither paid edition has an original fixture result in this comparison, so these are documented candidates rather than a hands-on winner. FAQ: Q: Have these paid editions been independently tested here? A: No. This comparison presents documented scope. No paid fixture test or hands-on winner is claimed. Q: Does the listed price prove the workflow is suitable? A: No. Check required tasks, platform, limits and the saved output. Purchase cost is separate from task evidence. ### Acrobat Pro vs PDFgear Windows URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/adobe-acrobat-pro-vs-pdfgear-windows Acrobat Pro vs PDFgear Windows: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. This comparison asks whether a free Windows workflow can cover the particular PDF jobs for which you currently pay for Acrobat Pro. Select existing-text editing, OCR, form creation and redaction individually. PDFgear Windows is not the Mac edition, and the presence of a tool on a feature list does not establish its fidelity on your files. Use a small synthetic scan and a complex layout, save copies and reopen them outside the editor. Check which tasks stay local and which optional services send data online. Acrobat’s subscription and PDFgear’s documented free purchase price describe licensing, not the quality of the result. No paid Acrobat test or exact-version PDFgear fixture pass is implied. FAQ: Q: Does this comparison cover PDFgear on Mac? A: No. It covers the Windows edition. Mac has its own catalog record and may have different entitlements. Q: Does the listed price prove the workflow is suitable? A: No. Check required tasks, platform, limits and the saved output. Purchase cost is separate from task evidence. ### Loom Business vs Tella Pro URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/loom-business-vs-tella-pro Loom Business vs Tella Pro: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. Choose what the viewer must receive before choosing a recording subscription. Loom Business and Tella Pro combine recording with hosted video workflows, while their capture, editing and export entitlements need to be checked for the exact plan. Record a short demo with separate microphone and system-audio markers, then test both an exported file and a signed-out share link. A recording that looks correct in the editor may still have a different downloaded format, watermark or recipient permission requirement. Count creators over the same annual period and read cancellation and storage rules before migrating a library. The table presents source-reviewed differences and outstanding checks, not an original paid-edition comparison test. FAQ: Q: Is a successful recording enough to verify sharing? A: No. Test the exported file and a signed-out recipient opening the hosted link separately. Q: Does the listed price prove the workflow is suitable? A: No. Check required tasks, platform, limits and the saved output. Purchase cost is separate from task evidence. ### OBS Studio vs ShareX URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/compare/obs-studio-vs-sharex OBS Studio vs ShareX: compare exact editions, supported platforms, feature limits and known costs. See official sources and choose by your workflow. For Windows users, the important distinction is the recording workflow and what happens after export. OBS is a scene-based recording and streaming application. ShareX focuses on screen capture and configurable workflows, including optional upload destinations. Do not treat an upload integration as a hosted team library supplied by the recorder itself. Both documented zero-price entries exclude separate storage, hardware and maintenance costs. Run the same five-minute clip and inspect microphone audio, system audio, resolution, duration and the resulting video in another player. ShareX is not a cross-platform substitute for OBS on macOS or Linux. These free editions remain source-documented candidates until their exact installed builds have completed the recording protocol. FAQ: Q: Can ShareX replace OBS on every operating system? A: No. The listed ShareX edition is Windows-only; select a platform-supported candidate on macOS or Linux. Q: Does the listed price prove the workflow is suitable? A: No. Check required tasks, platform, limits and the saved output. Purchase cost is separate from task evidence. ## Software categories ### PDF Editors Compared: Text Editing, OCR & Forms URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/software/pdf-editors Compare PDF editor editions for text editing, OCR, fillable forms and offline work. Check operating systems, free-plan limits, costs and official evidence. Find a PDF editor for the work you actually do. Compare text editing, OCR, form creation and local processing as separate requirements. FAQ: Q: Does OCR mean I can edit the scanned PDF? A: No. OCR recognizes text in an image. Producing searchable text and editing that text while preserving the page layout are separate capabilities. Select both OCR and existing-text editing if you need both. Q: Can a PDF viewer create fillable forms? A: Do not assume it can. Filling existing fields, typing on a page and creating reusable interactive fields are different features. Check form creation in the exact edition. ### Screen Recording Software: Local Files & Sharing URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/software/screen-recording Compare screen recording software for local exports, webcam, audio and hosted sharing. Check exact plans, watermark limits, platforms and known costs. Compare recording, local exports and hosted sharing as separate tasks. Choose the edition that fits your device and your team. FAQ: Q: Does a local recorder replace a hosted video service? A: It may replace recording, but you still need a way to store, share and control access to the resulting videos. Check the whole workflow before cancelling the old service. Q: How do I check whether a video has a watermark? A: Export a short sample using the exact plan you intend to keep, then play the complete file in another viewer. Inspect the hosted player separately if you also use share links. ## Exact editions ### ABBYY FineReader PDF Standard annual · Windows: Features & Limits URL: https://whatsnew2day.com/software/abbyy-finereader-pdf Explore ABBYY FineReader PDF Standard annual · Windows for Windows.
