LL Cool J reportedly chased down Gardeners’ World presenter Monty Don for a selfie after the pair appeared on Monday’s BBC Breakfast.
The American rapper, 56, whose real name is James Todd Smith, is said to have stopped the BBC horticulturist in the hallways of the Salford studios, where he revealed himself to be a big fan.
The mirror reports that host Nina Warhurst said she “overheard in the office hallway… LL Cool J and his entourage telling Monty Don that they’re big fans and asking for a selfie.”
The gardener, 69, who has been a regular face on UK television since 1989, has found fame in the US in recent years after his show American Gardens debuted in 2020.
LL’s make-up artist is also said to have gushed about the chance encounter, revealing that Monty had had a “huge impact on her life” and was someone she “never thought she’d meet”, before thanking her boss for introducing them.

It comes after Monty revealed the baffling reason he always wears a scarf in Gardeners’ World.
Speaking to the Gardeners’ World podcast, he told Nicki Chapman why he is always seen in a very similar outfit, saying: “Because we filmed out of sequence, that’s the reason I always wear a scarf when I film.” .
“Because if you see me in the crowd, even if I’m a little wrong about the other things, if I have the scarf the same, you miss the face, the shirt may or may not have a collar, or it may be a different shade of blue.
“It was a trick someone told me about 20 years ago: If you have a hat, a bag or a scarf, that’s what people notice.”
He also revealed the shocking moment producers sprayed him with a hose on the BBC set.
Monty explained: “We were filming and it was pouring rain. The camera got wet and we had to stop, luckily the electronics were fine.
“The producers said ‘we’ve started this take, we have to finish it.'” So we set up the camera again, got out a hose and someone stood there and washed me because of the continuity.
“Otherwise I would have gone in wet and come out dry.”

Presenter Nina Warhurst (pictured) listened to the unlikely reunion
Monty previously did a 180 on his belief that homegrown vegetables are better, admitting that sometimes store-bought vegetables are just as tasty.
The gardener says he has been growing vegetables since he was a child and admits that throughout his life he has “firmly adhered” to the idea that home-grown food is “always better” than store-bought.
The TV star said the joy of growing your own produce and eating it in season will always be “paramount”, but admitted that sometimes other people just grow better food.
The presenter admitted that a quarter of the produce he grows in his garden is thrown away and questioned how often garden-grown vegetables are eaten “with real pleasure” in the UK.
In an article in Gardeners’ World, Don said that in recent years his homegrown asparagus has “declined” and “we find that locally grown asparagus is just as good as ours.”
He said: ‘I emphasize that this goes against all my opinions which I have firmly adhered to throughout my life.
“I have blindly clung to the belief that home-grown is always better than store-bought.”
But he clarified: ‘I’m not abandoning that but modifying it a little.’
Don has been growing vegetables since he was a small child and previously spoke about the “luxury” of strolling through the garden to hand-pick homegrown produce.
