Adventurers flock to a beautiful tropical island in Queensland called the ‘Aussie Maldives’, it’s so beautiful.

Lizard Island – 150 miles from Cairns and some 17 miles off the coast of northern Queensland – has been dubbed the ‘most romantic place on earth’ by actress Kate Hudson.

This is thanks to its 24 white sand beaches, rugged coastline and crystal clear waters, which are perfect for snorkeling, diving and spotting fish including tuna, mahi-mahi, mackerel and queenfish.

While life on Lizard Island isn’t cheap — with room rates starting at around $1,500 — there’s still plenty to see and do on the island that won’t cost you too much money.

Many travelers on Instagram have shared photos of their experiences, from hiking to the top of the island at sunrise for 360-degree views to snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef at some of the best spots, including Clam Garden and Blue Lagoon.

Others have enjoyed paddle boarding or a meal at the resort’s Salt Water Restaurant, which serves mostly Far North Queensland produce, as well as fresh seafood and a Southeast Asian twist.

Dishes are paired with wines hand-selected for the resort by Australian sommelier and wine critic Jeremy Oliver.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Lizard Island Resort over Christmas and Boxing Day 2020. The magical time we spent on the island was without a doubt our best vacation to date and we will remember every moment, person and wonderful experience during our stay on the island,” wrote a recent reviewer.

Another said: ‘This is the best place on earth. Amazing experience – beautiful scenery, incredible coral reefs and diving, and most importantly an A* team who couldn’t have looked after us better’.
