Goodison Park was united before kick-off as Everton fitness coach Jack Dowling received applause from all corners of the stadium, including the away side, for the mega achievement of completing 26 marathons in 26 weeks in honor of his fan brother from Liverpool Tom.

Dowling raised more than £70,000 for Macmillan after his brother sadly passed away earlier this year, halfway through fundraising.

Dowling was presented with a t-shirt from both clubs as he entered the course wearing his London Marathon finisher’s medal. Well done, Jack.

ROONEY PRANKS WITH CARRAGHER

Old Evertonian Wayne Rooney was the guest speaker on Sky Sports’ coverage on Wednesday night.

He joked quite a bit with his old enemy Jamie Carragher in the studio as the pair reviewed some old Merseyside derby clashes.

“That’s a shame,” they laughed at an entry from 2000.

ONE IN EL GUEYE FOR THE REDS

Liverpool lacked creativity in midfield from the start, and much of that was down to Idrissa Gana Gueye.

The Senegalese midfielder made a big change. He interrupted the attacks with important interceptions, pushed the Liverpool players so as not to leave them spaces and passed progressively.

SEAN DYCHE CHANGES IT

Sean Dyche has managed almost 550 games for Watford, Burnley and Everton. For many, he will have dressed in a suit and boots, often with a dark jacket and a club-coloured tie.

This week he changed into a club tracksuit – he said he wanted to “change the feeling” at Finch Farm – and must see it as a lucky charm.

VAR AUDIO RELEASED IN TALKS

Refereeing boss Howard Webb will hold peace talks with Nottingham Forest owners this week, with VAR audio from three penalty appeals from their trip to Everton played at the club.

Forest requested access to referee Anthony Taylor’s conversations with VAR Stuart Attwell earlier this week after criticizing the latter’s appointment for the match at Goodison Park on the grounds that he is a “Luton fan”, and the body PGMOL arbitration board will be happy to do so.

NEW ARRIVAL IN LIVERPOOL

Good news on Wednesday at Liverpool’s camp. Dutch forward Cody Gakpo had to withdraw from the team because his wife, Noa, went into labor.

Gakpo, who this week was part of a €50 million investment plan in new sports ventures, had his best game in a long time on Sunday, so the Reds couldn’t.
