Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season are more than 10 times greater than at the start of the campaign.
This is according to supercomputer Opta, which uses statistics and data to predict where the Premier League trophy will end up.
On August 15, the day before the season began, Liverpool were estimated to have just a 5.1 percent chance of winning the title.
At the time, City were the big favorites with an 82.2% chance, while Arsenal were said to be their closest rivals with a 12.2% chance.
If supercomputers have feelings, Opta has probably been surprised by how the season has gone so far.
Mo Salah scored his tenth goal of the season in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday night.
Title rivals Manchester City lost 2-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool currently top the table after picking up an impressive 28 points from their first 11 games.
Meanwhile, City have lost four games in a row in all competitions for the first time during the Pep Guardiola era and are five points behind Liverpool.
Even further behind are Arsenal, with just 18 points from 10 games, although the Gunners can move to within just two points of City if they win away at Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of that match at Stamford Bridge, supercomputer Opta currently estimates that Liverpool have a 59.3% chance of winning the league.
City are now second favorites with a 36.2% chance, while Arsenal’s chances have fallen to 4.1%.
Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday night, shortly after seeing City lose 2-1 at Brighton.
It wasn’t a perfect day for the Reds, however, as Trent Alexander-Arnold left the field early with an injury problem.
Speaking after the match, Coach Slot said: “We are very happy that most of our players have stayed fit during this tough run.” We have to wait and see how Trent does.
With Liverpool’s victory, Arne Slot’s men are five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Saturday’s results left Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal with just a 4.1% chance of winning the title, according to supercomputer Opta
Slot added: ‘If I look at the games ahead of us, they are difficult. It will be a tough season in general.
‘The margins are small, we have a margin, but it is small. “Many challenges await us.”
Liverpool’s next game will be after an international break on November 24, when they travel to Southampton.
Three days later, Real Madrid will visit the Reds in the Champions League.
December will then begin with a big test of Liverpool’s Premier League title credentials when City visit Anfield.
