BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS

There is no place for former Liverpool Premier League winner Adam Lallana among Brighton’s starters, but there is room for former Man United striker Danny Welbeck, who I’m sure would love to score today against his former team’s arch-rivals.

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Jurgen Klopp makes just one change from the Liverpool team that started against Man United in the last game before the international break as Conor Bradley replaces the injured Andy Robertson.

Jarrell Quansah keeps his place alongside Virgil van Dijk in defense ahead of Ibrahim Konate, who starts on the bench.

Brighton has arrived at Anfield

The visitors are inside Anfield before kick-off and there was very little excitement as the players walked through the famous corridors of one of English football’s biggest stadiums. Nerves or excitement?

Who won’t we see today?

Liverpool’s injury problems continued during the international break as Andy Robertson became the latest star to join the growing list of players in the Anfield treatment room.

The Scotland international was withdrawn during a midweek clash against Northern Ireland and will not be able to play today due to a subsequent ankle problem.

Robertson is joined by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is still nursing a knee complaint, while Diogo Jota, Alisson, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago, Ben Doak and Joel Matip are also unavailable for the Reds.

A familiar face could be in the stands today

Liverpool fans were delighted after seeing Fernando Torres working alongside Klopp at Liverpool’s training base earlier in the week.

The Spaniard played for both Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League, but enjoyed his best years playing in a red shirt rather than blue.

Torres could be in the stands for today’s clash at Anfield and you can expect Liverpool fans to serenade him if he is.

A question of Liverpool’s mentality?

Liverpool at Anfield are sometimes an almost impenetrable force. But when they take the field today, one wonders how they will feel after their grueling defeat against Man United before the international break.

United’s dramatic 4-3 victory in the FA Cup quarter-finals left Liverpool out of the competition when Amad Dialo virtually won the match with the last kick of the game before the international break.

It was exhausting for both sets of players, but Liverpool didn’t have the feeling of victory to carry them through their recovery.

Liverpool are not used to losing this season (they have only done so twice in the league), so it will be interesting to see if there is any mental hangover from that crazy night at Old Trafford.

Good afternoon and thank you for joining us.

Hello, Happy Easter and welcome to today’s coverage of a huge clash at Anfield as Liverpool host Brighton in a weekend packed with Premier League action.

Liverpool’s mission is simple: win and return to the top of the table. A draw would be enough to put them a point ahead of Arsenal, but with City and the Gunners playing later tonight, it would do little to help their title credentials.

For Brighton it is a story of finding form after becoming one of the most inconsistent teams in the English top flight since the start of the year. Roberto de Zerbi has won just two of his last five Premier League games and will be desperate to put things right today.

Kick-off is at 2:00 pm, team news will be with us shortly and we have a lot to cover before then.
