A good Samaritan was stabbed after trying to save a woman who was allegedly being assaulted by a man in a car.
The woman was allegedly attacked in a parked car on Macquarie Street in Liverpool, in Sydney’s west, at 2am on Sunday.
A 44-year-old man, unknown to the couple, then tried to intervene.
Emergency services were called to the scene and found the good Samaritan with multiple stab wounds.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the matter was launched.
The woman was unharmed and spoke to police officers.
It was the second stabbing that occurred overnight after an unrelated incident occurred hours earlier.
NSW Police say a fight broke out at Circular Quay in the city centre at around 12.30am when a 20-year-old man was stabbed with a broken glass bottle.

The young man was found at the scene with a chest wound and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition, according to a police spokesman.
“Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were informed that another man involved in the incident left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services,” the spokesman said.
‘It is believed that neither party knows each other.’
