Liverpool stars drop back to Melwood to begin preparations for the Premier League title defense, while captain Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk train together during a break on the shores of Lake Geneva.

The Liverpool senior stars are returning to their Melwood base today to begin preparations for the upcoming season where they will fly direct to Austria after the shortest summer break in Premier League history.

The Reds have already returned to Merseyside from their short break, with the tight football schedule set to resume shortly after the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Players dropped back to Melwood early Saturday morning, after recharging their batteries on warmer climbs, before boarding a plane again to make the journey to Austria.

Mohamed Salah is one of the biggest names to return, with the Egyptian star sharing images of herself with the team on Saturday morning.

Wearing a protective face mask, Salah filmed himself walking through what appeared to be an airport store along with new hire Kostas Tsimikas.

The Greek international has now met the majority of his teammates for the first time, following his £ 11.75 million switch from Olympiacos.

Elsewhere, goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Adrian documented boarding the fly to the Reds’ pre-season base.

Both players enjoyed time away with their families and met on Saturday before preparations began.

Meanwhile, captain Jordan Henderson and star defender Virgil van Dijk have slightly different plans.

The duo are currently on Lake Geneva enjoying the last days of the short post-season break.

However, Henderson and Van Dijk have already started their training together, so that they are in top condition before the start of the campaign.

The Liverpool skipper shared gym footage of himself and Van Dijk with his 3.8 million Instagram followers, before later taking a scooter ride around the famous lake with his Dutch teammate.

Henderson and Van Dijk are expected to join the rest of the Liverpool squad later when they land in Austria.

The Reds were forced to give up their initial plans to hold a camp in Evian after the government confirmed that France will be added to the Covid-19 quarantine list.

Jurgen Klopp was on hand to greet his stars on Merseyside, who return to competitive action in two weeks.

Liverpool will meet Arsenal in the curtain riser of the season, the Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium on August 29.

The first round for the new Premier League season starts on Saturday, September 12. A period of less than a month from now.

Liverpool will find out who they will meet with on the opening day of the season on August 21 – when details of all 380 top flights will be released.
