CCTV footage revealed a good Samaritan was stabbed multiple times after rushing to the aid of a woman who had been assaulted.
The 44-year-old man remains in hospital after being repeatedly stabbed on the main street of Liverpool, in Sydney’s southwest, early on Sunday morning.
CCTV footage captured on Macquarie Street at around 2.22am showed a man running towards the scene of the shooting, followed by a woman who tried to grab him before he ran away.
Police allege the man had previously assaulted the woman in a parked car before the good Samaritan, who was not known to the couple, intervened.
The Good Samaritan is captured by security cameras when he saw the man and the woman fighting near a car.
He took off his jacket and approached to end the altercation.
The man was seen pulling a knife out of his car before approaching the Good Samaritan, who was stabbed multiple times.

Emergency services treated the good Samaritan for multiple stab wounds before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the matter was launched.
The woman involved in the incident is assisting police with their investigations.
She was unharmed.
The alleged attacker remains at large.

“These crimes are concerning to the community but please be assured that we are doing everything we can and using all the resources we can,” Chief Inspector Rob Duncan told reporters.
“If there is no justifiable reason for having a knife on you, you will face a significant prison sentence.”
Police are urging anyone with information or a dash cam to come forward.
